To re-focus the thread a little...I lived in Destin, FL for 8 years, moved to Memphis two years after I got hired. I loved the time with my family, not commuting, and it sure made the job easier. But, it wasn't enough. That said, we spent 22 months there and I'm now back in Destin, FL. I truly wish it would've worked out for the whole family, it just didn't, myself included. In the interest of full disclosure, I went on long-term mil leave as soon as I got back here, so I haven't had to deal with the commute again. And I'm not eager to do it, either.

Have to Chime in
Never said commuting didn't suck, its just when the costs are weighed against the benefits, its not worth living in domicile for US! I live out of domicile for my family. You, RT and others live in domicile for your own reasons! My only gripe is the proselytizing of the virtues of living in domicile by those that live in domicile! It's almost like they are still trying to convince themselves! We're all smart enough to make our decisions based on what's important to our own families and our own lives.

Wow, another thread gone to flame bait. MD11Fr8Dog, give me a break. You really think that the MEM domicile pilots are trying to convert ya all commuters. I believe it's the other way. Show me a post that a domiciled pilot has started that claims MEM is the greatest thing since sliced bread...

Fr8Dog the thing will be fixed when you come back next month to sit reserve for 15 days.
Fr8Dog uses words I can't understand on the phone and he is always playing Xbox and doesn't pay attention.
What I really think sucks about the people that commute is that is always a family decision, but I don't know about your wives but there is no way my wife or Fr8Dog's or BoyCaptain's wives would choose to spend extra time away from their small kids. It's fine that we do it. When I told fr8Dog he was giving up potentially 40 days in the past 4 months (26 for sure) he said it was worth it. If I told my wife she would have to give up 10 days a month away from our kids she'd flip. Lord we'd be living in Antarctica for that kind of absenteeism if it was her time. I'm 100% that's true with me and BC and pretty sure with fr8dog's wife too. Not sure how many wives with young kids would choose a place over time with their small kids.
