FedEx Hiring
#842
I'm saying that they need to hire 500 guys NOW, in 2015, to properly man the airline.
And I am also saying that I don't think they can do it with our current contract situation. Guys talk to their buddies, and get the scoop.
And everyone I know is telling their buddies to go to Delta or American.
FedEx had their time, but it is now time to stand tall or limp away.
Either stand tall with a decent pilot contract or limp away in the background....

I do not disagree with your sentiment, but.......Look at how many voluntarily chose to sell their vacations back in the last 6 months.
Look how much extra (voluntary) flying was done in the past 18 Months, as is their Contractual right and individual Choice.
Management will still find Pilots who will be glad to come to FedEx if offered a Job.
They sure didn't have any trouble finding Pilots with 757/67 experience to go to HKG.
Maybe we aren't currently the #1 Choice any more, but if a guy gets turned down by Delta or American, do you really think they won't come here if offered a Class date?
Also, With American's UAL and Delta's potential Pay rates.....FedEx Management knows they are going to have to pony up and exceed them or at least match them.
By how much and how quickly is all Up to Us. Too many short sighted Pilots imho.
Enjoy a Happy Father's Day with your Families everyone.

Have interviews ramped up at FedEx finally? It just seems like they are draining the pool and taking the 10 guys going to HK and nothing else.

FCIF says they may hire up to 500...
I have no idea how many they will hire. But if they stopped at 10 that would not technically be wrong.
With training two years away for some on the bid and negotiations going on, I am starting to think this bid is deliberately optimistic. The machinery does not yet seem to be spinning up for huge hiring. Maybe it will after the bid, and I hope it does. They will certainly need to hire some for retirements. However, I am not too warm and fuzzy there will be 500 new hires by July 2017. Hope I get to eat crow on that one...

Maybe I need to restate what I meant. Are there any guys that didn't need to agree to go to HK and weren't previous internals that have interviews lined up and anticipate being in a July or later class? I know June is filled with guys that passed on foreign slots and internals.

We were never in the pool. When I was called by FedEx I was asked if I would go to a FDA. I was then told what my class date, base and airframe would be if I was hired. None of us were internals and all of us agreed to goto HK.

My guess is as good as the next person's as to how many we actually hire, but why would they hire much more than a trickle before this bid closes? While I highly doubt that they can avoid all Passover with a bid this big and backlogs on the 756, it seems like newhires are fairly obvious low hanging fruit with respect to Passover. So they wait until after the bid to see how things are looking in the most likely new hire seats in the 777, MD and Bus. Even if 500 is in fact the number, to me it represents a need over time not training throughput which will be affected by a number of variables.
