You will notice that Richard Quest did not "lay flat". He either kept his back against the sidewall of the aircraft or laid on his side in a semi fetal position. FAIL. I'm 6'00". I could not "lay flat" on that seat row, unless I wanted my legs sticking out into the aisle.

This red herring you guys are throwing out is really ridiculous. There are plenty of things in this T/A that could be a cause of concern. You guys are grasping at straws in your desperation.

68-32 for.

Really? Ok. If that happens during the duration of this CBA (if it passes), I'll eat my hat.
Sluggo, I have no idea what Airlines are planning. But I remember when all the Majors had Real first class and now most don't.

My point is "Why did the Company want this language"? My guess is they know something we don't, otherwise what is the purpose in changing it.

Maybe this in't a big deal if you are Junior on the 757 or A300. I guess maybe you are not on the MD-11 or 777. Currently, if you Deadhead over to Europe or Asia you qualify for Real First Class and definitely qualify for Business class per the current Contract.

All the US international carriers now have a 2 tier economy section. You pay a little more for a little more leg room and pitch and you get a free Drink.

Will they increase this option with a Lay Flat seat? I really don't know.
But if they do, this TA will make us ride back there instead of up front where we belong.

The TA language now Memorializes Lay flat seats verse Business Class or Higher.

Maybe they know something we don't.

What if SWA starts flying to the Hawaiian islands or what if Ryan Air starts flying from CONUS to Europe and they both configure their cabins accordingly.
Having flown on Ryan, they will never have lie flat seats, they will have no seats and everyone will have to stand.

I can see it now.
Ryan Airlines 175 Lay Flat Standing up. Don't laugh. You would have some in the Company argue this point during a future Grievance.

Ryan would probably have lie flat on the floor.

If its next to some hot chick, I'm all for it. But, we would need contractual language to make sure some hot chick was going to be next to us.

As an MD11 guy I'd be right at home.

Thx No, not Tony- sorry.

I guess the point of posting the CNN story is the fact the company wants vague language so they can run a trunk not only thru this section but most of the contract. Grasping at straws aside, current contract vague language has really screwed the crew force = TA no change in vague language.

I can see an variation of the "Couch" is for the company to purchase three economy "Couch" seats instead of Business. Slippery Slope, what is so hard about putting in a sentence that states Business class or better. If it is a big issue, there is a reason.

What does it cost the company for tighter language = loss of control.

From the article:
"Consumers may rebuff plans for cramming more seats into an aircraft, especially with airline seats reportedly shrinking more and more each year, but the company hopes to provide a high level of comfort for passengers by designing some seats that can recline 130 to 180 degrees." http://www.cnbc.com/2015/10/07/airbu...-airlines.html

Some guys on here make fun of this possibility from Airbus, because it is still in the patenting phase. I think the company looks at this TA, and all negotiations 20 years out, while our horizon is about 4 years out. They have the long term strategy. Now, when/if this or similar patents are approved, and our TA is voted it, our CBA language will be ready for these seats.
