How does the TA prevent this?
I know we were told lay flat seats would not be used in economy, why is this not in writing within the TA?
Recent news story about airlines starting to design economy class lay flat seats called "couches".

FDX MEC TA Q&A

c. Higher Class of Service
i. Regardless of a passenger carrier’s nomenclature or hierarchy for
classes of service, a Flat Bed Seat satisfies the higher class of
service requirements set forth in this Section. (p.119)

What we were told in videos, roadshows and Q&A won't matter to an arbitrator. The only thing that will matter is what is written in the TA:
c. Higher Class of Service
i. Regardless of a passenger carrier’s nomenclature or hierarchy for
classes of service, a Flat Bed Seat satisfies the higher class of
service requirements set forth in this Section. (p.119)

No, but I'm assuming it'll be inside the airplane, and more than likely in the passenger cabin somewhere, and since none of the economy seats in question recline to 175 degrees or more, I'd say they'd be in Business or First.
But, I will concede that, if, an airline decides to replace their 30 pitch seats in economy with 80 pitch, lie-flat seats, then yes, we may be fully lying flat in economy class.
But the bank will still be based on the highest class of service.

Maybe they know something we don't.
What if SWA starts flying to the Hawaiian islands or what if Ryan Air starts flying from CONUS to Europe and they both configure their cabins accordingly.

It would have been so easy to add, "in Business Class or better." I doubt the omission was accidental.

So, you really think it's a possibility that the passenger airline industry who has, since deregulation, been shrinking the seat pitch in order to cram as many seats as they can in the cabin, are now going to do a 180 (or a 175) and rip all those seats out to put less passengers in the cabin? Really? Ok. If that happens during the duration of this CBA (if it passes), I'll eat my hat.
