FedEx Jumpseat question.
FX 1869 or FX 1876 OAK LAX, looking to jumpseat from OAK.
How do I get on the FedEx property at 1am?
Is there a possibility of parking my car there for a couple of days? Any help would be appreciated.

As in most cases the FedEx ramps on on the other side of the airport from the PAX terminals.
If you have employed parking at OAK, park there and catch a cab. You can also park at one of the Airport Hotels and ask for a Shuttle to FDX.
There is no parking at our OAK ramp for Offline folks. Once you get to our Guard Shack and pass security screening, they will instruct you on where to go to check in for your jumpsuit.
3. Rules to live by
1. Don't NO show, without calling jumpsuit and canceling your reservation. If you do not cancel and you do NO show you will be Blacklisted. Death by Bonga bonga I think blocked for 6 months for 1st offense.
2. Don't be Late. (sometimes our jets push 20 early if they are loaded and ready) If by some chance you will be late, call the OAK ramp, (NOT JUMPSEAT) and tell them your ETA. They might be able to make it work, otherwise you will be considered No show. See Above.
3. Bring Cookies for the crew (old tradition that is slowly fading) and enjoy our hospitality and a Ride to LAX at 0200!

Agreed, do NOT No Show.
If you are late, call the ramp. Any Captain who pushes 20 minutes early and leaves a jumpseater behind deserves a blanket party.
Cookies are a nice touch -- definitely not required.

Do you guys know if there is parking in KMEM for offline j/s folks? I know there are several parking lots (ramp, employees, etc.) but do not know if they are open to offline or if they have a guard to get thru. If there is can you provide the what/where/etc. (can you bus ride to the AOC).
I am already aware that if you are being dropped off you can get past the guard to the AOC and be let go there.
TIA

If you return via FedEx, catch the bus at the same spot you get dropped off and tell them you need a ride to Jumpseat parking. They will drop you at the Eastern of the two buildings above. You may have to remind them to stop if there are Fedex guys on the bus and they are focused on driving by it.
This is a short description of what our Jumpseat people will tell you when you ask them the same question when making your reservation.

Go North at the intersection of Democrat and Portia. Your Airline badge will get you through the guard. Continue North and park near one of the buildings on the West and East side of the road. This is the offline Jumpseat parking area. Stand at the curb with your bags at the Western building. One of the shorter crew busses will stop to get you. Tell them you need a ride to the AOC.

The Parking lot on the north side of Democrat Rd. is huge -- hard to miss. The entrance is almost exactly half-way between Airways Blvd/Plough Blvd to the west and Tchulahomah Rd. to the east -- about 0.9 miles from either one.
There is a covered/enclosed pedestrian walkway which spans Democrat Rd. just to the east of the parking lot entrance. If you're coming from the east, turn RIGHT just before the walkway; if you're coming from the west, turn LEFT just after passing under the walkway. (If you want to plug in an address and go with Google Maps, use 2838 Democrat Rd.)
There are 2 lanes inbound -- use the left lane. Stop at the guard shack and explain you're jumpseating and show your ID. You will then come to a 4-way stop sign. Your safest bet (remember, you're in Memphis) is to proceed straight ahead. You'll pass between the 2 shuttle stops (covered shelters), and you can choose to park on either side. I recommend turning to the left so you won't have to cross over traffic on foot to get back to the west shuttle stop. Once there, you should find a sign facing the curb designating the Jumpseater Pick-Up/Drop Off.
Large buses will be driving through the parking lot to transport hub employees to the bridge, and smaller buses will be going to the pilot parking lot to the north which is secured by another electric code-operated gate. Look for one of those smaller buses exiting the pilot parking lot to pick you up and carry you to the Air Operations Center (AOC).

Portia doesn't connect to Democrat. That intersection is Republican to the south and Business Park to the north. Didn't realize they were telling jumpseaters to park up there. I would think the businesses that are in those buildings would not be happy.

Hey, if you can tell me where Portia St. intersects Democrat Rd., I'll cop to your moniker for me. I'd really like to see that map.
I grew up here and went to weekly Civil Air Patrol meetings on the old TANG base long before this new outfit called Federal Express started swallowing up airport real estate, and I've never heard of Portia St. The parking lot entrance is not at a street intersection anyway; to the north is the gate for the parking lot, and to the south is what used to be the main gate for the Tennessee Air National Guard base.
Still, I did a little digging for Portia St. in Memphis. If you take Republican Dr. south from Democrat Rd., about 400' south you'll find a stub that runs west to Hurricane Creek, then runs south alongside the creek to the intersection of Sprankle Ave. and Independent Drive. That's 1,600' of pavement that doesn't touch Democrat Rd., and is nowhere near the parking lot in question. If you present your airline ID to the gate guard on Portia St. and ask about Jumpseater parking, you're likely to get a blank stare. On the other hand, if you're driving an 18-wheeler full of FedEx freight, they can tell you where to put it.
If my offering more detailed information offends you, please feel free to add me to your ignore list. I still might consider letting you ride on the jumpseat, anyway.
