Pakagecheck, can you explain how 777 guys are making more than HKG guys? I'm asking seriously, since I haven't been on the 777, and don't talk to guys on it about their pay.

Both 777 and HKG start at WB with all of HKG CH with international override, 95% (guess) of 777 also international. HKG guys are getting around $60k/year tax free HA. How do the 777 guys even come close to that after taxes? That would have to be roughly $84k/year, to equal the $60k right? That's about $7k/month extra that the 777 guys need just to break even with the HKG guys, after taxes. I get that there are grid penalty events and such (which I haven't had the need to study and/or understand, yet), but I don't see how, other than the top 5% who get bumped for training and then drafted on the 777, can get close to the HKG pay.

PPP, as a side note, I didn't go to CGN because of the pay, nor the flying, hardly anyone does. Most guys go for the experience of living and traveling through Europe with family, or as empty nesters, or because they are married to a European and have family there. Although as far as the 757 flying goes, there are no layovers out of MEM that equal TLV, BCN, CPH, CDG, the occasional ATH, BSL... of course, IMO.

A potentially dumb question came up the other day; Can someone bid/be awarded a captain upgrade if they don't have 1,000 of 121 PIC or do we get around that requirement somehow with AQP?

It has happened. I currently know of someone in this rare situation. The person in question has had their training delayed in order to reach the 1,000 milestone. I have no knowledge if the company was prepared for this situation or how it will address it in the future.

I would start with asking your Fleet Captain.

Don't the hiring requirements still say 1000 PIC turbine to be interviewed?

If so, how does this scenario occur?

1000 PIC in a military aircraft doesn't count towards 121 time.

Isn't it 1000 SIC in 121 ops? Also I believe 500 military PIC multi engine fixed wing in an aircraft with more than one pilot can be counted towards it.

Unless there is a company requirement in excess of the FAR's

And that is a (one of) major reason why I was unhappy with the recent contact. We took away the best traveling deal the FDAs had. We gave up international hotel in lieu of deadhead and changed it to intercontinental hotel in lieu of deadhead. Really messed with the good deal our FDA folks had. I know they can still get HILO when their pairings are built properly, but that "domestic" HILO sucks compared to the flexibility of the old terms they had.

They can just pay for their own hotels with all the money over WB pay they get.

Absolutely true Raptor.

Again, some mid-to-senior guys with certain city pairs, who literally lived on the road, were getting an additional $18k/year on tax-free HILO/perdiem-only to pay for Tavel expenses. It was a phenomenal deal, also built for commuters' QOL.

FWIW, my apologies for discussing actual numbers in an anonymous public forum, I feel it's in bad form. Although it seems this information is pretty much public for the most part...
