Fdx Bid Open

This is what I heard directly from all of the most senior captains in CGN, most of whom didn't get tuition allowance anyway, since they weren't there with kids, and had been WB captains in MEM/ANC for over a decade before EUR.
Housing allowance is around $45k/year, TAX FREE. That surpasses the $40/hr difference bewtween 15 NB and WB captain pay, particularly when that hourly rate is taxed. Then take into account all CH and perdiem are international, and in some cases the travel expenses paid by HILO and HILO/perdiem only. As I said - it's not all pensionable. I also lived it. Made more as a NB FO there than most MEM WB FO's in my seniority (except for some of the 777 guys).
My point was that the oft-repeated "going to Europe for low NB pay is unsat" does not cover the full story.

So you can make $300k/yr in CGN without doing any extra flying?

FWIW, every MEM MD and Bus captain that I spoke with who went to CGN as a 757 captain said the exact same thing. They didn't skip a beat going over there. They may not have made more, but they said they certainly didn't make less.

Yeah, senior captains can. Re-read what I wrote. I'm including $45k/yr of TAX FREE housing allowance.
Do the math. Or, talk to guys who've done it, like Sluggo_63 has.

More importanly Cloud, how was the skiing? I lived 2 years in Germany but was TDY 100+ days a year and was busy in a fighter squadron when I was there before. Trying it out with a few more days off a month and no additpnal duties has some appeal.

Yeah, I hate to admit it, but we passed on some phenomenal crews & families ski trips. Our son's age at the time had us changing our winter priorities to being in southern Spain, Greece and Italy - not complaining
If you're thinking of bidding it Albie, there were a couple of guys who had a winter condo in Verbier, and their life there was all about skiing the Alps. Phenomenal.

Guess the guys I know aren't the "most senior" over there cause they aren't. The most senior in any seat can always maximize their pay. I get the 45k offsets the pay diff (295 vs 254). However your misconception is that they are the highest paid in the company. No comparison. There are some in HKG swinging big but 777 takes the cake hands down(some 11 folks are doing quite well also) and not just "the most senior" and not just a few. I get your point, I'm just correcting the facts so some don't think if they go over there, its the richest seat in the house.
But 757 senior captains (25+ years) I flew with told me that they'd never made more in any left WB seat in MEM/ANC than in NB CGN (none were coming from the 777 though, big difference). I take them at their word. And yeah, maybe not the most $ of all seats, but for guys considering bidding over on this bid, it is a phenomenal opportunity, and very well paid, despite it being NB. IMO.

I get the kids thing. We had two under 5 when we lived in Germany 96-98, and that keeps your radius small for trips as things can go south quickly.
One more FDA input--FDA can be a plus, but if your spouse does have to give up a job the gain can be washed out. In our case wife had stepped back from her career, so a non-factor for us. If any spouse is interested in working in Hong Kong, watching folks leave work at 7-8 PM every night to the ferries and MTRs might soften some of that enthusiasm.
