depends on fleet. International on 77 and 11, 8-12 day trips, one a month. 75, 76, 30, you’re looking at 5-6 day trips or 4-6 nights of hub turns 2x a month. Most are commuter friendly, depending on your city.

What everyone else said. We have trips ranging from 1 day out and backs, to 14 day around the world "adventures" and everything in between.

The diversity of flying is what I like best about FDX. It doesn’t take years of seniority to do any of it either. For new guys/gals coming on now and in the near future you will be able to do whichever you like in the next 2-3 years. New hires are getting about every airplane and soon to be about every base.

This sounds amazing! Hoping to get on next year.

I’ve been at a legacy for almost 4 years and was recently hired at FedEx. Do you guys think this is a good transition in the era we’re in now? How is it for guys coming from airlines to adjust to cargo? Thanks for the info.

I am on the B777 and have flown with over 10 pilots who left majors within the last two years. All of them said they have been very happy with their decision. Also said it before Covid hit.

Depends. Where are you how? Do you commute? Can you get thru training pay and first year pay? How old are you?

You’d be starting on the front end of nearly a 1000 pilot hiring wave. In a year and a half to two years you’d most likely hold the right seat of anyway airplane at any base, and probably the left seat of the 75 and maybe the Airbus. You’d be holding lines as an FO that are all double deadheads which is essentially paid commuting. You could easily hold a lot of day flying. (All this subjective, but I have 1300 below me and have held all those types of flying some some time.)

I’d say there’s not a better time to get hired at FedEx than right now.

Also, I left a major (United) to come to FedEx nearly 4 years ago. Love it here.

If you started recently, you should gain seniority fairly quickly and find a niche that you like. Nights or days, short or long trips, Traveling the world or just bouncing around the Midwest, with seniority you’ll find what you want to do.

As a new hire coming in the MD11 MEM appears to have lots of vacancies based on the results of the system bid. The growing 777 and 767 fleets filled to the 90-95% range. While I know the MD is a “dying” fleet could a new hire expect good seniority and movement as well as trip mix over the next few years?
