How exactly does pay work? I've seen the "salary" schedules posted on this site based on schedule/captain or FO rates, but are you actually paid per flight hour (block time) or per day? Or something different? It looks like after a certain number of hours flown, or after hours, the rate changes?

Thanks

Daily Rate as listed is accurate. OT starts at 12 hours and is currently 3X hourly rate (Daily/12). Add per diem to those as all meals and expenses are covered by the company.

When you say "12 hours," are you referring to duty day hours or flight hours for the tour? Sorry.

Duty hours, we aren't paid by the flight hour like the 121 world is.

12 hours of duty on a singular day, NOT cumulative.

So if you get 13 hours of duty on day 1 and day 2, but then the rest of the tour each day is less than 12 hours, you get 2 hours of OT.

Most of your questions have been answered but I will echo the comment that FlexJet is a great company to work for. I'm no longer there but I really enjoyed my time flying with them.

How much can you realistically expect to make working 7 on 7 off as a year 1 FO? Considering going to to FlexJet to not have to sit reserve at my regional for 3+ years when I upgrade. Would be a steep paycut though from making $150/hour now though at my regional. QOL would be better at FlexJet by far so that’s what has me very interested.

I’d say first year would be in the ballpark of about 130k. Ish.

First year FO pay is 513/day, and first year captain pay is 650/day. You can upgrade to captain in about 8 months or so.

Figure an average of about 16 days per month (remember, we run 28 day bud periods, so there’s some overlap)

16 X 513 X 8 = 65,664
FO bonus 10% = 6,566
Captain pay: 650 X 16 X 4 = 41,600
Captain bonus 15%= 6,240
Per diem: (42/day for everyone) 42x16x12 = 8,064
Fuel savings bonus (same for everyone): = 4000

Total year one: 132,134

There’s potential to work and earn more. And we get paid OT for any duty beyond 12 hours and also any extra days are paid between 1.5-3x daily rate based on company need. The hourly OT is (daily rate/12)*3. So one hour of OT on first year pay is 128.25.

Pick up a few OT days and you’ll be sitting right at about 140k your first year.

Second year:

2nd year PIC pay is 670/day
So 16 X 670 X 12 = 128,640
PIC bonus 15% = 19,296
Fuel savings bonus = 4000
Per diem = 8,064

Total second year = 160,000

I’m on second year pay and about to make 180k, but I am also working 18 days per month, too. All of our base pay/benefits and everything are calculated at 195 days per year. That comes out to 16.25 days of pay per month.

As a conservative estimate knock 20K off those numbers and that’s extremely easy to reach. Not everyone will make that kind of money, especially if you’re upgrading from a Challenger/Praetor into the Phenom and have to deal with 2-3 months of training pay at FO rates prior to finishing your .299 ride.
