Default Seaplane Rating

Does anyone know if in Seattle it be worthwhile to get a Seaplane rating? In terms of job opportunities, will having a Seaplane rating come in handy?

If you're planning on buying a seaplane, then yes you'll need it. As far as jobs go, companies like Kenmore are hiring guys with 1000's of hours on floats (if not more), so it's not an entry level opportunity.

Pacific Airways in Ketchikan hires guys to fly the Beaver on floats and considers 10,000 hours [on floats] as low time!

Well, Seaplanes will have to wait for a bit. Although, it would be fun to ride in one.

It may not be the best idea if your looking for a fast seaplane job...but it sure is a heck of a lot of fun, and ya NEVER know who you may run across that's hiring. Chances may not be high, but again you never know. It's still a ton of fun though, especially up here in upstate NY.

Wings of Alaska, in Juneau used to hire low time float plane guys. Don't know if they still do.

Flippity flip floop......to many times has made landing on water a hard job to find.
No insurance company wants to touch you even though....you've got tons on land time and money to blow.
It's the sh*ts, a catch 22, I guess I'll fly helicopters...what theres a hitch too!
AAAhhh forget it, I'll go back to can, sit here and play with my winky and my left hand.

Last I heard, they will hire you to fly wheels, then, after a year, if they really like you, they might let you fly floats if you have at least 50 hours float time assuming at least 15 hours are in a Beaver.

You could try to get a job instructing for Kenmore, then move into the Beavers in a year or two.

Default Seaborne

Gotta question:
3K hr ATP, here.... not much float time. 1K in AK time, tundra. I'm going to Seaborne for an interview tomorrow (Twotter floats, f/o). I figure the PIC multi turbine float time might be worth something, but is the F/O time worth anything? Just wondered.... it is float time, albeit right side?

Main goal: Alaska next season in floats. Will multi float time hurt in search of a single float job? What are the options for multi float jobs in AK? Most everything I came accross was 206/Beaver/cub stuff....

Thanks!

Ronin

P.S.... Seaborne hires with fairly low mins... but as above, it's for the right seat. Right now, the experienced guys have gone north to Alaska for the summer season. They're hiring right now.
