I used ASA for my commercial ticket, and liked it a lot. I really dislike anything King. Gliem is good to polish up your knowledge before the test, but I didn't like it for starting from scratch. Jeppeson would be my second choice after ASA. Sporty's third. Sporty's has a good flight syllabus that I like better than the Jepp.

ASA videos are cheaper, but you get what you pay for and they do shoddy production work. Sportys are high quality videos and are always a good value. King videos are high quality, but they are overpriced compared to Sportys and exhibit a certain mass-market mentality. I feel after watching one that they are trying to turn aviation into golf or cooking. I never tried any of the Jeppeson vidoes as they are really expensive, but their textbooks are excellent. In the end, I suggest buying whatever your instructor uses or the cheapest materials aimed at the cert or rating you are after. The only exception to this is, buy a couple of Jepp textbooks as reference books.

I only voted King Schools becuase it is the only home study system I had experience with. I found material and video satisfactory. The principles were clearly outlined in the course material.

Find someone who has them and watch them. If that is too sketchy for you then do what I did. Go to the library and search for them on the worldcat search engine. Use the interlibrary loan system to have them sent from whoever has them. Then watch them. I have all of the ones listed above and got them all from the library. I let my students borrow them, I just hope they don't do anyting illegal and burn them.

I have used a combination of them to study. For my written I use Gleim, but for my orals and check rides I like to use ASA products. I have used King in the past, although Martha and John seem to put me to sleep. I do like the King check ride courses because they cover everything that could possibly be on the check ride.

Such a perfect description of the King videos. I used the Gleim for all my written exams. Just bought the ATP yesterday and started working on that beast.

I would recomend Jeppesen for your textbooks and Gleim for your test prep software. Those two combined ensure a thorough presentation of all knowledge essential to becoming a well rounded pilot. The Jepp textbooks will always serve as good reference material. I used Jeppesen for private, instrument, commercial and flight instructor. And used the Gleim test prep software a week leading up to each written exam. The software emulates the actual type of testing system you will use( lasergrade, cats...). My average scores on writtens was 95. Lowest was 93 highest was 98. Again, I think the combo of the Jepp and Gleim works great. Good Luck!
