Default shortage of pilots/increase in training= ??

I ask myself where are we headed these days...it costs like 5-8k for a PPL alone and lets not talk about Intrument, Commercial, ME, etc.....in the end you look forward to a 20k/yr job and thats if your lucky enough to make it out of the CFI deal....then there are talks of User fees...eh...What does the future hold for us?....my passion for flying is what keeps me going but there is a part of me that is slightly worried. Like everyone says on here, "have a plan B" (mine is the mechanical side since i have my A&P) But I really wont be happy unless Im flying.....Anybody care to have a discussion about the future of commercial aviation.....

20k is the first year only and the money is that low only at the regionals.

You can do better about everywhere right now. With the low-time hiring mins for about all regionals, it makes it an easy case to get on early. You'll still make more than if you were flight instructing(although I still have the opinion everyone should flight instruct for at least 500hrs). The thing I'm worried about is all these folks just getting in right now, is the low-experience being placed into the cockpit of these jets. So the Captain has to not only do his/her job, but have an extra watchful eye on the SIC. I know there's tons of capable and suited new-hires, but actual "experience" is worth more than most people think.
