Starting to reconsider.........

Hey atbwannabe,
I'm going to let you in on something. While the academies post about placing their graduates at airlines, they don't mention if they're still employed by them. I know two on ATP's website that are still listed as being with my airline that washed out of my class alone. It just so happens that they were 100% of the representatives from ATP.

I'll PM you later on today with my home number and we can talk "face to face" so to speak. But straight up though, I don't work for, not an agent of, or perform any clandestine activity for ATP.
SMILE!!!!

Just from what you wrote, whats wrong with Aeronautix Flight School. If i were training, what better instruction could you get than from a crusty old captain. Not a dig against the new instructors, just seems you would be getting more "experience"for your training dollar.Right there close to home,I definately think you are on the right track going with the fbo.I bet that when you get to where you need that six or seven day cross country in a twin,if you asked on here loud enoughyou might find someone on here willing to help your cause.Apache,s are great cross country time buildersAnyway, good luck to you from one old guy to another. FLY SAFE T.C.
I've said it before and I'll say it again, price is of no matter, however, if I can get what I perceive to be the same level of expert training that I would get @ ATP, then it's all good. Whether I fork out 25K or 63K, I want my money's worth. Period. I 'd rather the former.....25K.

Wannabe: Your previous post was correct...at your age it's time to get on with it if you're going to. Even with the demand as high as it is, you're taking some risk due to your background issues, but unfortunately the only way to know for sure is to spend the time and money, and apply to the regionals.
As always, I'd recommend a good small school or FBO especially if you can find one locally. If you have to move anyway, ATP would probably OK...they are not as bad as most of the big-name flight schools.

"if I can get what I perceive to be the same level of expert training that I would get @ ATP"
Again, I think you are getting that from the ATP website. My feeling is that if your CFI was a PPL 90 days ago, just how expert could they be? Not very. Are you likely to get a more experienced CFI at an FBO? Maybe, the more you shop around, the better your odds. You might be able to find a retired air force or airline pilot doing it for fun. Such a person would be exponentially better than an ATP CFI out of the 90 day program.
What ATP does different is their program nets you more multi time than a typcial FBO, at a price. There is nothing about that which makes their instruction any more expert. The multi time makes you attractive at a regional, sooner, but it comes at a price. Personally, I don't think it's worth it. Maybe it would be to you.
"Shouldnt LAFF be jumping in the mix pretty soon?"
LAFF left the site, for reasons of his own, about three weeks ago.

Good to hear from you rick. Your words are always straight to the point and encouraging. I know at the medical exam, the AME said, "We've got some hurdles to get over." That within itself was very reassuring, however, this has been as I pointed out before a very humbling experience. As soon as I hear from FAA/OK, I'll post the outcome.

I do understand that some of the flight instructors were PP's 90 days or so ago, but wouldn't you think that they have CFI's that are FT employees? I mean not going anywhere anytime soon. From what I've heard, ( ...and no I haven't tour/visited their facilities) you are get a number of different instructors instructing you along the way. If this is the case, one of those guys may be retired AF, Navy or Marine aviator or airline captain and might just be picking up some extra cash. I don't know.
I'm definitely not going to through the baby out with the water in terms of the information you're providing. The multi-time is well worth it. However, the hiring mins could change at any time and be raised back up to 800-1200 hours TT with a mandatory 250 ME. Since I've been participating on APC, I've seen the them go up then back down.
Again, everything hinges on Oklahoma City.
Man, I'll be glad to know one way or the other.

I just got my second class renewed. The doctor tapped one knee, looked in one ear, and then rambled at his captive audience for thirty minutes about photography. I thought it was funny since I fly for fun and don't depend on it, but an AME really has your career in his or her hands if you fly for a living.
