I think its called Aeronautical Decision somethingorother The structure is great traing for the professional aviation world but you also need to learn how to think outside the box.
I found this to be excellent for training as well. Nothing like a crappy beat up airplane to teach you how to handle some sort of failure. I never had any sort of failure on one of the planes at Riddle. At an FBO on the other hand, I've had plenty. Makes for a great captain.

I'm not sure why these Riddle threads keep popping up and why people shake their heads when I tell them I went to Riddle. Do I brag about it or allow it to affect my ego somehow? No. I don't understand why people care. It's my money wasted so screw you. I don't want to hear it.

Harvard of Aviation? The actual term is "Harvard of the Skies" and it was indeed given to ERAU. That ridiculous comparison was coined in an obscure Time Magazine article heading from nearly 30 years ago, and ERAU has been milking it ever since. It doesn't matter...ERAU, UND, whatever. If you went to school for an aviation degree you flushed money, and more importantly time, down the toilet.

Just out of high school and you already know everything.
Dont you realize that we have been there and have the experience ( that is a key word in this business) to know better? What do you think about my student who was hired there with 0 experience at 12$ an hour? Said person will have YOU for trial and error.
It is a money making machine, period

Dont take it out on the school. I'm graduating high school in a week and was accepted (within 3 days of applying, I might add) to start at embry riddle this fall. Its expensive, but so is Harvard. In four years when I'm one of those 1/4th of commercial airline pilots from embry riddle, I'll confirm for you firsthand the veracity of that statistic.

Thats probably because having gone to riddle is nothing to brag about or get an ego over. I am literally embarrassed to tell people that i went there. The training there is nothing you can't get by picking up Aerodynamics for Naval Aviators for like 20 bucks, and maybe some jepp crap. The flight training is nothing better than most FBOs can give you for way less money, and when you get a job they are going to throw you into ground school and sims anyway.

FlyerJosh and Ubermich,
I agree with yall. I am not one of those people who go about tooting my own horn, and neither do alot of riddle people. Secondly, it is my money that I AM PAYING FOR...and if i want to spend it on a great eduacation...then so be it.
I dont understand what is all this about wasting money on an Aero Sci Degree? A dean at ERAU once said that graduates of riddle...and any other professional aviation school...are not graduating as PILOTS but rather AVIATORS. Anybody can fly a plane....but to truely understand it and to have a passion for it...is a whole other ball game. I completly agree that time in the logbook is time in the logbook, but until you go to one of these schools, you may never understand some of the life saving lessons that are to be learned. I got my current job mostly because i was a Riddle GRAD!!!!! So much for typing Embry-Riddle in small font on my resume!
On the note about airforce aeroclubs, I am at one in the midwest...its for DOD personel and their dependants to recieve FAA tickets...totally seperate from upt. However we do conduct IFS/IFT programs. I wish i could give you more information on which bases have clubs and which dont....but its probably something you can find on the internet.
Lastly, about riddle recruiters lying to incoming freshman....im sure it happens sometimes....other times...they are misundstood....no different then military recruiters or anthing like that. They want you to go to their school and will obviously tell you all the "good stuff" to get you there. Nature of business my friends.

What a crock of ****. A dean of ERAU said something nice about ERAU? What would you expect? Any at rate, many people here bashing the school have, in fact, been there. Including me, I'm mortified to admit.

I hear ya man...wouldnt expect anything else. Im sorry you didnt like it. But its about doing what makes ya happy right? So if not being at riddle was that for you.....sweet deal, im sure it didnt hurt ya any. And its that way for alot of people at ANY school. Believe me...riddle guys hear this stuff ALL the time......and we are just as aware of the apparent "ego" problem as all of you. Cant let a bad examples ruin it for everyone else right? Look, im sorry if anyone had a bad experience at riddle or any other aviation school....but i know alot of successful people who had a great experience and just want to use what they learned.

Default To All You ERAU Bashers

Alright guys, lets get the bottom line straight about some things. As a current ERAU student I'm more than proud to represent my school and proud of the education I have received in the 3 years I have been a student at ERAU. First of all, I will say that the structure of ERAU's program has helped me to become a more well roudned individual and pilot. The classes we ake as well prepare us for a career as an airline pilot. Where at mom and pops FBO do you learn about turbine engine, advanced aircraft systems and compoments or about crew resource management and what flying the line as an airline pilot is like. While we learn alot of info during our colelge career I will agree that probably 90% of what you learn will be in the career field outside ERAU when you're working for an airline. ERAU also trains its pilots to become professionals. We as students must show up 30 mins prior to flights and have to be dressed appropriately. If not you get "no showed" and fined for not showing up. 3 no shows=dismissal from flight program. Now alot of you may think that 30 mins rule is alot of garbage but its not. When you go out to a regional airline you will have a show time and if you show up late, too bad, its going to count against you. In addition ERAU incorporates Flows into its checklist. When you go to a regional or major airline, corporate, etc. you will learn to do flows. A flow is accomplished by doing a series of items and backing them up with a checklist at then end. Also the instruction at ERAU is very top notch. I have had the opportunity to fly at a mom and pop fbo before and I have noticed a signifcant difference. At mom and pops u can pass by knowing 70% of the information. However at ERAU they teach you to know the most information and 70% is not good enough. When you get that airline job for all you job seekers do you think 70% will be enough? I'm not saying that there are not other schools out there that great flight schools, I'm just sharing my experience with you at ERAU. Best of luck to anyone out there wherever you may go and whichever route you choose to utilize your flight training. All I'm saying is that ERAU has prepared me and that I think it can prepare one for a career as an airline pilot. No it doesnt guarantee you a job when you leave, that is something you have to work to achieve, but it will put you well on your way.
