HA HA lol thats a funny post. Everybody I know that did their aviation degrees through one of those schools are not working for airlines or using their degree at all. Pretty crazy stuff. Though I think I would go for an degree in ATC. I heard there is suppose to be a shortage, so I might use that.

I have absolutley no interest in applying myself in any other feild but aviation....think what you want to think. Maybe getting the non-aviation degree is alittle better,BUT you're not screwing yourself over by getting an aviation degree. There are many job oppurtunities out there in the aviation industry besides being a pilot! No offense, I know you mean well, and please dont take this the wrong way, but you come across as one of those people that says to me, "why don't you just join the air force and they'll pay for your training??" when I tell them I'm going to be a commercial pilot, which I almost am, and I have absolutly no interest in doing anything else....so why does that bother you so much that people get degrees in aviation? MYOB!

I had a few friends in flight school whilst in Pensacola that had attended ERAU. They all agreed it was a great experience but it left them around 100K in debt. Tough way to start out.

I went to Riddle for a year then left. The ground school edjucation there is great. Deffinitly more in-depth than any one would get at a flight school or FBO. But stick and rudder skills can be learned any where for a lot cheaper. I had loan and student aid complications so I left.

True, you're a big boy (or girl?) and free to do what you want. If aviation is all you want to pursue by all means - go for it!

With respect to an aviation degree, what I hear some of the experienced pilots saying is diversify yourself. Of course, we all have colorful ways to say that

I view education and/or skills as a stock portfolio. As the saying goes, "don't put all your eggs in one basket", it's also true with education. If you were to loose your medical, how many jobs are actually out there (that you're qualified for) in aviation.

I also have an aviation/engineering degree, which filled a square on the pilot application. Beyond that, the [college aviation] education has been next to worthless. I say next to worthless only because it allowed me to fill a square on the grad school application which WAS NOT aviation related. If I had it to again, I'd pursue an undergrad degree in Finance or something more universally applicable.

Good Luck.

I'm almost done with my associate's degree in aeronautical technology. After graduating I was thinking about pursuing a BBA in finance or international business.

It would seem to me that a 2 year aviation degree holds about as much water as a four year, since it seems that the four year is bloated with a bunch of classes to meet the credit requirements.

Any thoughts on that idea?

I'll tell you what though....my non-aviation related degree has sure made probationary pay at UPS bearable. Don't b!tch when you are furloughed one day and have to go work at Starbucks with your "Aviation Degree".

Peace.

"my non-aviation related degree has sure made probationary pay at UPS bearable"

How's that? Did you have to get a second job on UPS first year pay?
