It depends where you do it... that is the "general" rule, but places like florida that have a TON of students and not enough FAA Examiners will get put off to a DE.... If there is one available then you will probably go with them. Dont be afraid of that... They are just like any other DE, but they work for the FAA...

Dont get nervous, get motivated.. Remember its JUST ANOTHER CHECKRIDE.... The more you prepare the smoother it will go.... I have heard of checkrides lasting as long as 9 hours with a DE when the student wasnt prepared... I spent a ton of time studying and mine was a painless 1.5 hour oral and 1.5 hour flight.... Just make sure you are ready!

Not all the initials have to be with the FED. Some places are approved to do the initial, I know University of Oklahoma does. Secondly, was the CFI your initial? Congrats regardlessly Mixflyer. It was definitely my most stressfull checkride (initial with the fed that is). I did II first. Granted that did make it easier.

Good luck mcarier713.

I read that if the local FSDO cannot schedule the checkride within 30 days, they will assign you to a DPE.

Default Thanks

Thanks again. So much for a vacation after all the study...the flight school is already keeping me busy. So far I really enjoy this job.

haha i failed my check yesterday about a 6 hour oral, preflighted, xwind take off, climbed out to the practice area.... she told me when i was ready to show her steep turns, went into the steep turn, beautiful, i don't think i lost an inch or kt through the entire maneuver... she points to the maneuvering speed placard on the dash, "whats this?" ... "maneuvering speed" ... "ok, why did you do your turns above it?" ... "uhhhhhh" ... "take me back to the airport." ... "ok"

oh well, so much for being the few and the proud that pass the first time. good thing is, i don't have to my oral again.

A 6 hour oral? Something more going on here. Was it you or her?
Do you have to do it again with her?
