For IFR and beyond I make $40/hr. For multi I make $50/hr.
My advice with the DCA interview is to run, not walk away. No one I know how has worked, or does work for DCA enjoyed it. You're not going to do much flying anyway.

I instructed there also. I left just after the cirrus arrived. We were pulling 11/hr but I made as much or more than I am on first year FO pay flying guarantee. Only flew the cirrus twice but it was a sweet GA bird. The interview was like a regional interview with a test and then a Q&A board with HR and Pilot types. Unless DCA has changed in the last year it was like slavery.....U fly as much or little as they want u 2 and wear full uniform even in the Florida summers. Get in good with Nick in scheduling and Leslie in dispatch and life becomes bearable. Still have a lot of friends stuck there so PM me for additional details.

Not to drift too much, but what are CFIs being paid these days? $11/hr. is absolutely insane! I recall making $17/hr. back in 1999 at a smaller operator in ATL. I'm by no means a union guy, but it appears that CFIs are being abused by these guys!

I didn't realize instructors there got Delta benefits... is that how they justify the low pay? Kinda sucks if so, I already have airline benefits from the furlough.
I've always thought that forcing CFI's to wear epaulets is pathetic... "All hail the mighty Cessna captain..."
Agreed on the low pay. There's a place in Fairbanks, AK paying $30/hr for 172 instruction. No goofy uniform required.
Thanks for the info guys, sounds like I might as well give it a shot. Anything beats sitting around the apartment all day...

I also began instructing there in 2001. Take it for what it's worth. It's an instructor job. I remember getting paid $10.00/hr. There was a test before the interview or CFI stuff. In the interview I sat with the President of the school, the Vice President, Chief Pilot, Assistant Chief and one Group Leader. There was a few basic HR questions from the Vice President. A few WWYD if questions from the assistant Chief and then the President asked me to explain P-factor to her. She claimed that she had no clue what it was and wanted to see where I would start with fresh student pilot. Once hired we went through a week and a half Standardization Class. Let me tell you that looking back on it now it wasn't that bad, but when I started at the airlines, my initial ground school was easier than that standz class. Well...Less stressful anyway. There was a check flight in the middle of that class as well. All being said, I had much more fun teaching at DCA than putting up with Company/Union politics at Comair. If I could get paid a decent wage and be home every night I wouldn't hesitate to take the job.

The gen ap test is nothing to worry about, my interview consisted of some basic primacy questions, and talking about p-factor..that's it..very straight forward.
Now, that was in 2006....since there are probably A TON of instructors looking for work, it may be more "selective".
Be forewarned...working for DCA is awful. They treat their employees like absolute garbage, I do hope that you get the job if it's something you really want/need..but just watch your back there, they won't hesitate to screw you over (not just my personal experience..but i could probably recite dozens of stories).
PM me if you have any further questions.

Sounds like perfect prep for a regional, especially Comair.

Are people still training there? I thought their big selling point was that they guaranteed an airline interview after training? Seeing as everyone is furloughing right now, I don't see that interview turning out too well...

From what I've heard it's mainly foreign pilot training.
