Now I have decided to take the 121 test especially how easy Sheppardair.com makes studying, but I think for the benefit of others it would be a good idea to get this straightened out.
Thanks!

Could someone please verify if this is true or not. According to the Gleim ATP Knowledge Test book, it states "Regardless of which knowledge test you decide to take, once you pass the practical test, you will be given a generic ATP certificate. In effect, the choice of the Part 121 or Part 135 knowledge test will not affect the "type" of ATP certificate you are issued. You should [Not must] take the test that most accurately relates to the type of operation you intend to use your ATP certificate for."

When you take the checkride, the oral will deal with either 121 or 135 questions, depending on which written you took. I suspect that if you upgrade at an airline they probably want you to have the 121 written done, since they are going to discuss 121, not 135 operations. A 121 in-house DPE might not be required to have any 135 knowledge.
So if you think you might get your ATP by upgrading at an airline, I would do the 121 version.

For anybody who is interested. I have ATP books selling on ebay. I got an 88% on the written. ATP flight was a little more difficult (single pilot, steam gauges, trying to hold while talking on the radio....)

I highly recommend the SheppardAir program. I had it for 5 days (due to a holiday) and only needed 2-3 days maximum. It is perfect for rote memorization; and if you are good at recognizing a pattern and word association. I noticed that a certain type of question where all the answers made for aircraft types - C-12, F-4, A-3, etc.... I made a song (based on Snow White) for the performance questions. Worked like a charm!

Now that is a scary thought. I have a hard enough time getting my kids songs/nursery rhymes out of my head as it is. Add planes to that association and who knows what will happen to me.

I didn't say i was proud of it - but after writing it all out I was beginning to wonder how I was going to memorize the info.
High, low - high, low, (and at the end - low, low, low)etc.... and of course it stuck with me.
For the purposes of the test I was not above singing a Disney song to myself under my breath. Luckily I was alone taking the test!
