If anything really went wrong it's obviously on the examiner not you. If the examiner wants to do something like that and it's not dangerous, just let him do it. I'm guessing you're a new CFI because if you've been bashing you head against a wall like this for awhile I can't believe you've continued to instruct. I hate to say it but the path of least resistance is the way to go on this one.
