How about the university of 135 freight? Get your certs and a non aviation degree while building towards 1200 hours.

Regardless of how much money you pay or how much "training" you receive at a college flight school, you will still end up with the same little green licenses in the end. The only thing that really matters is YOU and your abilities.

My advice: Get you licenses, try to stay out of debt and NEVER NEVER NEVER stop learning. Never stop reading, never stop thinking, never stop testing yourself, and never let the words "Good Enough" entire your aviation career. You are the only one who will be at the interview table batting on your behalf, so regardless of your degree concentration, regardless of the reputations of all of the CFIs who taught you, and regardless of whatever senses of entitlement you may have because you spent more money to learn to fly that I did, YOU and YOUR ABILITIES are the only things that separate you and I.

I did go to a collegiate flight school and I instructed at that flight school for 3 years and I can safely say that the majority of my aviation knowledge was imparted on me through my experience as a CFI and my inability to just go to work and go home WITHOUT learning something in the process.

Wanna put in a plug for Utah State. Quite often overlooked, but one of the best programs in the country, especially with the CRJ senior capstone class taught by a former Delta 737 captain and instructor. Plus theres a few agreements in the works that will give USU grads a huge advantage over other schools. I can't mention on here until they are official, but once they are, I'll let everyone know.

If you live in Georgia I'd say Middle Georgia College. Mostly good weather year round aside from rain and great price. Its not that huge and is in a really small town though.

Exactly.

I got accepted to ERAU Daytona and FIT back in 2001. I had every intention of going to ERAU. I went down to Florida to tour both. I got a cold reception at ERAU...no body was friendly, went to the cafeteria and no one was talking to each other, went to a dorm and everyone had their door closed.

I went down to FIT and found the opposite, everyone was outside enjoying each other's company, the people were nice, there were women on campus, it just seemed like the place where I wanted to spend the next 4 years. I don't regret the decision to go to FIT at all.

Hahah this is hilarious! Feel like I'm listening to a White House Press Conference. What are you a recruiter?

First things first, if you are looking for a real college experience don't go to Utah State - for obvious reasons.

Second, this CRJ Capstone exists of you paying more so that you can read CRJ books, play around in the CRJ sim, and take a class on the systems. But you are not getting type cert.

SO when you get hired by an airline and you tell them you "took the CRJ Capstone" at USU, they say, "So...?" You will have to go through the same classes that everyone else has to. It's a waste of money.

ALSO, half the professors at these universities are washed up Airline pilot's (Notice he said FORMER Delta 737 pilot) that have NO idea about what is going on in the industry these days. They are there to make a few extra bucks and crack some jokes (pretty funny jokes though). If you want to hear about the "good ol' days" then these classes are fun. If you actually care about your education, they suck.

Save your money, go to a college that suites your personality and other interests. Get an engineering degree, business, law, or basket weaving degree, and fly on the side.

If you don't believe me - which you probably don't. I just came from a University with a prominent flight program. I transferred to another University because the education I was getting there was a joke - and over priced. I am learning more at the FBO that I train at.

PM me with any questions.

Well, ex-fighter-pilots that worked for airlines and then lost their retirement usually. What they are exactly preparing you for...nobody knows...

Ex (or former) fighter pilots of any sort are the absolute worst instructors!
They mess up the landing pattern because they keep turning on the guy passing them on downwind and clogging up the radios with "left to left" and "guns kill on the Cessna on downwind!"
