Default Phoenix Area CFI Hiring

I'm trying to get back into flying after a two year absence and most likely need to get a few months of instruction in to be hire-able for 121.

What schools in the PHX area are busy, and hiring somewhat experienced (1530TT, 1197 multi, 320 dual given, CFII, MEI, Gold Seal) at a decent wage? And yes I did just crack myself up saying decent wage when referring to a CFI job.

Thanks in advance.

You have less than 400 hours dual given and you have a gold seal... Sounds like a lot of add on ratings to me. ATP is usually hiring. Luftansa is, but they are looking for long term. A lot of jobs have been taken by ex-Transpac employees.

The only problem I see with ATP is that with the 1500 hour rule the CFIs they have from their course are going to be there a lot longer than ever before. They are worth a shot though.

There doesn't seem to be a ton of movement at the academy flight schools right now. Might need to try some of the smaller Part 61 shops.

With your time you could look into 135 opportunities or things other than instructing. A lot of instructing jobs love the 300 hour pilot right out of training because they need to stay there for a while to build 1500 hours. Your time might actually give you a disadvantage if the hiring gets competitive.

TransPac and Westwind at DVT used to hire almost non-stop but I hear TransPac has had some trouble the past few months. The pay wasn't good, but it was better than an average instructing job, and definitely better than the regionals.

I thought the same thing about the gold seal. Mine took well over 1,000 dual to get. Well done.

I was a lot closer to getting gold seal after 300 dual given than I was after 1,000 dual given. The international flight schools can really destroy someone's pass rate.

Two years out I don't think a GOOD 135 outfit would hire him. Certainly not a 135 you could trust not to gig your ticket.

Lufthansa. I know a 135 cargo pilot that went back to instructing for better pay & schedule.

ATP for multi, maybe not pay tho (something tells me you already know that).

Or you can get current, go 135 and then 121.
