Your statement about the FAA/Jeppesen flight manuals is accurate for the flight portion of the degree ONLY! There are plenty of classes outside of flight that are taken. There are courses on systems, avionics, CRM, aerodynamics, performance, physiology, safety, operations, dispatch, and FMS....to name a few. I am in the Aero Sci program (go ahead, flame it) and I'm enjoying every second of it. The professors and CFIs are awesome and very knowledgeable. Having no aviation background is actually what pushed me into the degree and the school, not the "kool-aid." After reading what I could've done with my aviation goal has not made me second guess my decision coming here at all. Pay a little more attention to the positive testimonials and don't make assumptions.

Physiology? The AIM has a section on it. You don't need a semester long class at ERAU.

Systems, CRM, performance, etc...If you can read and write the company ground school will cover it and if you apply yourself you'll do well without the 4 years wasted in aero science at ERAU.

Son, you're in for a rude awakening when you realize you wasted years and $$$ on an aero science degree. Its not worth the amount you're spending.

Aero Science is a fantasy degree....I feel bad calling it a degree.

Well, that's fine if airline ground school covers it again. I'll just look at this as having a "head start" and I believe it'll only make everything easier down the road. Like I said, I'd be much more regretful if I had the feeling it wasn't going anywhere or going to do anything for me. Trust me, I would've gotten out of this a long time ago when I realized how much it costs. I'd be willing to bet that I have learned or I am going to learn a lot more than most people out there.

It's like you guys have no concept of money. Are you able to conceptualize how much $140K actually is? What about the extra quarter million in interest paid over 20 years? I hope all that is worth a little "head start" in airline ground school, which many people pass without the "benefit" of an aero sci degree. Hope you like Ramen...

The only thing missing in the 70+ year old F-86 pilot explaining how to use an plotter for the first day of class followed by war stories the rest of the semester...You can rent 'The Right Stuff' and have it playing in the background while you read the Jepp manuals if you want to 'experience' the wisdom of old age...

Can you name something in any Degree that you could not get out of a book?? Why go to Law School, you can just read up and take the Bar, some states don't even require you to go to Law School to take the Bar. You could just as easily work as a Law Clerk for a couple of years than take the test. I guess Law School is just a waste of money aswell.

Look at any major, every single class will have a book that the student must own, that the professor uses. So for every major you could just learn all the information from a book. College is useless, might as well get a library card and just spend your days there teaching yourself.

What is interesting is that those who have disclosed how much it cost them at these Flight Colleges have been atleast 40k less than what you say.

College is expensive everywhere, even State Schools are becoming more and more expensive to go to.

It isn't what I say...it's right on ERAU's website. Those who have disclosed how much it cost them may have paid less because tuition was less in the past. Currently, it's $12,745 a semester, with an estimated $10,000 a year in flight costs, for a grand total of $141,960. Never mind that the flight cost estimate is absurdly low...
I've pasted examples of state school tuition enough to where you should know how silly it is to try to derive some justification for paying ERAU's charges based on the fact that all college tuition rates are increasing. There's still no comparison, and there probably never will be.

By the way, if you hop on over to the Key Loan thread in Money Talk there's a young fellow who admitted graduating ERAU with a debt load $40K above the estimate. $180K. That may be an unusual case, but what's probable is that the liklihood of voluntary disclosure decreases as total debt increases.

Are you sharpshooting me?

Law school is a waste of money if you can learn on your own and pass the bar exam.
