On track to get in "early" somewhere down the road.

What would you rather have your 17 yr. old doing, flying or sitting on Facebook all day?

Congrats to Drew for having a dream and putting in the hard work to fulfill it, especially at the age of 17.

Good for him for setting and achieving some lofty goals and good on his parents for being active in his endeavors and supportive of his dreams.

The thread title is a bit of a misnomer. The kid only got two types that day. He got his initial certificate and three more ratings that day. But the SIC ratings don't require a checkride so I'll bet he only flew twice that day. For a SIC rating you only have to show a record of GS and three trips around the pattern to a full stop and engine out work.

Thanks, I was wondering exactly what a "Second in Command" type rating was!

It's a publicity stunt with no real value, but then again, what the heck was I doing at 17? I had my private certificate, but senior year was about pulling wool - not Citations and DC-3s.

Somehow that didn't end up in Flying Magazine, though.

I just assumed the kid was Dan Gryder's son or some other relation.
Then it made sense.

Exactly. If he doesn't burn himself out, he's got a lot of fantastic opportunities in front of him.

I had soloed and was working on my private when I was 17, but girls, guitar, and football were an equal or higher priority!
