Two CMELs in the front, one under the hood. MEI in the backseat instructing. All 3 log PIC.

Should be interested to see how you will explain that in an interview. Even if it is legal.

I didn't think that it was legal to log the instructing time during time building. There had to be a purpose to the instruction and it would be hard to justify giving instruction from the back seat of a plane.

I agree never heard of an instructor teaching two person at one time and still logging pic time.

An instructor logging instruction given and student logging PIC is understood. Or one CMEL logging PIC and another logging PIC acting as safety pilot and another is under hood.

But 3 pilots and backseat logging PIC as well is outrageous.

I can build PIC time for being a safety pilot? We both can build PIC time at the same time as well?

That is correct, provided before the flight you both agree that the one under the hood is manipulating the controls and is PIC, and you are responsible for the safety of the flight as the Safety Pilot. You log PIC for the time, but no landings, unless you actually do one. Then the other pilot can't log the landing or the time it took to do one. You have to sign his book with your cert number as the SP.

Wow what an awesome loophole. Cuts Multiengine cost in half. Beautiful. Not to mention, it is legit in the sense you are training.

Will the Airlines question this act though and not take it seriously? Or is ME PIC time ME PIC time no matter how we got it?

Thanks for the heads up.

Airlines & 135 operators do not care if you split time, as long as you have:

a brain

the total times they want

3 good references

all your time well documented, and all legal in accordance with FAR's

All the rest you read about on web boards is mostly BS from people who don't know what they'e talking about, but have time to post on web boards.

I am a former Part 135 pilot/instructor/DOM, now doing custom instruction programs to get people to the 135's and airlines in my spare time.

I agree with philiplane. I have flown with some friends and they have saved 10-15 thousand easy while getting they CPL.
And even the DPE's don't care about how you get the hours while giving your license. Wished I knew about this and had the knowledge about the same during my training.

And thanks to philiplane. He has a very good aircraft and was a great experience to fly with him.
