ANA JP Express or Air Japan??

As part of the process you'll receive a Japanese flight physical. Mine was delayed since the hospital in Yokohama canceled the appointment and was taken in Anchorage the week after my interview. This is a more stringent physical than the actual JCAB one you'll take after being hired. They want to be certain you can pass the JCAB.

Here is the problem, the JCAB outlines the medical standards. We have the standards in regulation book we get the first week of class. They are pretty vague though and I dont see any specific mention of cholestrol. There are a lot of references to blood diseases and other stuff which I got no idea what they are talking about. Now, ANA has their own set of standards which I understand to be more stringent than the JCAB. I have heard that just because you can pass a JCAB medical, does not mean you can pass the ANA pre-employment medical. If you want to PM me you email address, I can try to figure out how to send you a copy of the medical standards, maybe they make more sense to you than they do to me. The caveat, of course, is that ANA standards are higher.

Regrettably we know very little about the specifics of the medical test, all I know is that when I'm at duty I'm fat and when I go home I'm fit. Very little is known about your specific question so the only thing I can say is go for it and hope for the best

During your exam for a medical certificate, your blood is taken and cholesterol is measured. However, this is not part of the JCAB medical check. Apparently, Japanese law requires all employees of any company to undergo a health exam, including blood work, every year.
So my best guess is this: High cholesterol may not disqualify you from holding a class 1 medical certificate, but the medication you are using to control it might. There is something in the approved medication manual at the office regarding cholesterol medication but I will have to look at it next time I am at work. However, your pre-employment medical check is more stringent that the JCAB check so I would imagine that either the high cholesterol or the medication use will more than likely be disqualifying there. The best people to ask are going to be the contract companies. At least they would be able to tell you if you are wasting your time or not.

Hours,
I'm checking my hours against the requirements and wondering if I meet the requirements. Have 3600tt with 2500 jet but this is all rhs and all but 120 hours has been rhs since training. Sure there is plenty of P1 u/s. Do I need to wait for a command in my present gig for the minimum 250 pic hours or what ?? I know guys are applying with probably a lot more hours, but its worth a try and sounds a great job.

You need 3000 total, 1000 jet (P1 or P2) and a jet PIC type rating. So as long as you have a P1 type rating in some jet, any jet, you meet the mins. Although most guys that are interviewed now have more time, if you can make your application stand out, there is a chance to get an interview. I would suggest really putting a lot of time and thought into the biography section of the application. Good luck.

Lost in Asia,
Thanks for the reply, very appreciated. With a Jaa licence and ratings page, you do not have this faa command jet rating thing. You are either rated on a two crew or not, be it jet or tp. cheers though and yeah i hear its a bit a bit of a bun fight with such "low" hours.

Jason,
I don't think they will give your wife and kids a visa to live in Japan. They can get a 90-day tourist visa, that resets if you fly out and back (from what I understand). This is a commuting contract, that is how it is set up.
I'm not there yet so I don't know for sure, just what I have heard.
