Emirates hiring (Part 2)

Daddy,
As far as I know the starting pay for everyone is 28060, but that also depends on what country you are coming from and the currency deal (there may be some wiggle room there). There were some DAL guys that were offered DEC jobs and were current on the 777 and they were offered the very same as any other DEC. Remember that accommodations are provided, and some are quite nice, some are out of town, some are new some are old. So in some respects, you roll the dice and take your chances. So if you are making more money, you still need to take into consideration the accommodations provided, unless that is provided at your current carrier.
But all in all, take what I say as very limited since I have been here just a few weeks. But did have some info on the pay. I too was curious about it and then talked to some of the 777 DAL guys and what they were offered.
Regards,
S1

I understand that the 3 day interview includes on the last day a personal interview with someone from flight ops and HR, would it be wise to bring up the pay issue if I'm asked if I have any questions for them? I hear that some DEC's are on say 4th year Captains pay, and if so how is this determined my EK.

Thanks Skyone and Typhoonpilot appreciate the input.
Let me clarify that there is really no greed involved here, it's more a case of not knowing what to expect with two kids in school and one in college. I hear and read DXB has become expensive and inflation is becoming a concern to many homemakers.
Kind Regards

Actual situation
37 years old, married, two children, i dont qualified for ERP because i hold a Mexican passport. It is so dificult to live in Dubai with the EK FO salary specially if you want to send your kids to ASD. I asked the same in pprune and they were very kind showing me some reality. I might be thinking so much in advance because my children are 6 months old but if i make the big move i can stand much of what i have read in these forums but is not worth if i wont be able to give my kids good level of education.
Thanks for your time

Dedeita, my thoughts exactly. Although I know EK is a good airline (despite what is said on Pprune) I'm very concerned by the cost of living in DXB. I dont know what to expect from the currency protection plan they have nor do I know how it works. I have an EU passport and my country's currency is the Euro. If anyone can shed some light on that subject it would be much appreciated.

I too cannot truely explain the protection plan as I am also American.. I can say that you guys must live in very cheap cities.. Dubai does not seem to be any more (or less) expensive then a similar size city in the US.. It is MUCH LESS expensive then many EU cities and places like Singapore.
With a tax-free income, and a free house I would have to make 150% more in the US to equal my pay here..; and I still have (and pay for) my house in the US!!
Hope it helps!!

Thanks again Typhoonpilot and EK Birdcage.
I have my interview soon and I'm really looking forward to it despite the fact that I hear about only 10% of DEC's make it through the program. I intend to be myself and have as much of a good time with it as I possibly can. At the end of the day I'll meet some interesting people and do something different. It can only be a possitive experience.
Thanks again to all

No offence guys, but as I pass my 3 1/2 year mark on the bus with no upgrade in sight (that's after been hired and told to expect 18 months) I'd be happy to see the "success" rate at 0%
Although there is much I like here, the way they treat promotion here is the most unfair, shabby and unprofessional thing I've seen in 1/4 century of flying. I just can't read about happy DECs without getting a little agitated.
Having got that off my chest...as far as the Exchange Rate Protection goes, the formula is very complicated. I can tell you that as a lowly pion eff-oh from the Great White North, I take home about 1700 dhs a month in ERP. Most of that goes for anger management training.
