Getting your foreign type rating onto FAA ATP
hey all,
I would like to get my foreign type ratings put onto my FAA ATP.
I have received conflicting information about this process.
Do the FAA recognize foreign types or is a full type course required despite several thousand hours on type?
regards

As captjns said, all those places have courses available for folks that have experience on type, it is basically a self study course followed by 3 or 4 sim rides and then the check ride with the FAA, depends on what type rating but it will run you about 14K. The most important question here is, Why? Unless it is a prerequisite for a job offer, I think it will be a waist of money! If you are going to invest on a type rating, you might as well get one you don't already have.

Thanks for the info guys.
I checked out Pan Am and sent a request for info but they are unable to conduct A330 type ratings until next year? Doesn't say why.
I will get the skinny from these outfits.
I want to get involved in ferry flying and want to be as marketable as possible.

Or you can can go to the FSIMS guidance for the FAA and try to decode it.
FSIMS Document Viewer
What it says is if you don't currently hold a FAA certificate they will issue you a private with your type ratings limited to VFR ONLY under 61.75. If you then get a normal commercial or ATP and can show the training for your foreign type was conducted by the holder of a FAA CFI they'll move your type ratings over to your normal certificate. But since you say you have an ATP you can't go back and get a 61.75. So you're stuck doing the normal GS, sims and checkride. The only question is how much GS and how many sims. That's all controlled by the 142 school's training program and what courses they have approved by the FAA.
