Default India anybody?

I have been offered to fly a Captain position on the CRJ, based in India and am still trying to decide what to do.

It is a 3 year contract paying around $9000 a month tax free with housing included.

My wife is not really supportive about this. I am looking for some inputs before I pull the trigger.

There is a member here who is/was flying in India (Randal). Maybe he'll come along and answer some questions for you. You may also try to PM him.

I'll tell you that if your wife is not supportive that it probably isn't a good idea to take the job. If you do it will create a large strain on your marriage and you'll probably end up getting divorced or having to leave the job early.

I've been overseas for quite some time in a few different countries on various short and long term contracts. I've seen it all happen before. Sometimes the wife is okay with it initially, but then misses home and forces her husband to get a job back home. In the one instance that I personally witnessed where a guy came without the support of his wife he was miserable. Eventually he left, as it was either that or divorce.

Commuting to India would be out of the question as it's just too far. So don't even think about that option.

Do foreign carriers have any type of jumpseat agreements/CASS sort of thing like our domestic carriers do?

Uhm, I have no inputs to give you as I am young and inexperienced myself (sorry), but I WOULD like to know what happens of your decision.
I was actually browsing some stuff yesterday and one Indian carrier stood out... but my main concerns would be things like safety, quality of training, quality of life in a completely foreign country very far from home.
Please let us know what how this develops...

I have a good friend there...says he's loving it but it all depends on your base. Chennai and Bangalor are the two best. Good luck

I just received info about a FO position... pays $4k a month, housing, food, driver included. Still, have concerns about safety, language barrier, etc.

Schedule is 6 weeks on / 2 off or 3 weeks on / 1 off. The 6/2 could allow you to fly back to the US to visit your family I suppose.

I guess the average, 8000 TT, 4500 (121)PIC, 1800 CRJ.

There is a one month off a year, so that part is not bad. The downside is another 3 years on the CRJ. Money is good in Asia, as long as Mesa doesn't f##k it all up.

What safety?... On my brief international experience, I can tell you there is no place like U.S... You do get a ride to the airport though...
