I think SWA would be even better if the upgrade time weren't 12+ years. Personally, I'd rather fly more than one aircraft type for the rest of my career and I'd like better route variety - Netjets fits that bill. Horses for courses. SWA is probably the best bet for any airline out there from a stability standpoint - so, it would also be a great choice. Anyone getting a job at either would be deemed lucky these days...

PS....The company has an excellent track record for getting pilots home if problems develop at home. Even if it means ferrying the pilot home in the back of one of our own planes.

I could never give up my job at NJA. While WN may be one of the best jobs for pax, once you start working at a fractional you find there is a pretty much a consensus that the worst part of the job is being an airline passenger, and I personally loath WN as a customer. But I am not the customer they cater to. It is really satisfying providing a service that you know is really great. I felt that at Flyi (not knowing better), but being able to do that and know your company is making money and growing is even better. But different people want different things. WN is for the people who want to fly one airplane to the same maybe 50 places for 30 years. NJ is the place where you can go to any strip over 3500ft and can fly a variety of different airplanes. Another huge difference is seniority, seniority is not as near as important than at an airline, except for the basic things (vacation, schedule, upgrade), while important they are not as critical. Bottom line they are very different jobs, but both for great companies It all comes down to personal preference, do your research.

Who wouldn't want to be hanging out with the family???
At SWA the average trip is a 3 day trip. It's 3 days on then 4-5 days off.
Or at NJA it's 7 on 7 off. Alot can happen to the family in 7 days. If time with family matters most, then why favor NJA's over SWA.
Again, I think both are fantastic marvelous jobs. Just wondering why in this regard you would think NJA's give's you more time at home.

Both are great places. I like my QOL at NJ.

True, also think about commuting, if you fly for FedEx, UPS, SWA, etc MOST likely you'll have to commute and that takes away your days off AND time with your family. Sure pay might be better, but is it worth the 4hrs of commuting each way and not getting compensated for "commuting?" thats my two cents...

I'll admit that I'm biased towards NJ, but take a look that the Frac thread titles and the Majors titles. Lots of talk of furloughs and negative aspects on the Majors forum with some talk of hiring. Fractional forums are packed with hiring questions. Pretty unscientific, but interesting anyway.

Agreed....However.
NetJets has something SWA probably won't ever have.....hundreds of pilots who used to work on the other side of the fence. Sure there are a few ex-NJA pilots at SWA/121 jobs, but there are many times that number at NJA that now despise the airline life (and ALPA). Almost daily we hear a former 121 heavy driver say he wished he had know about NJA sooner. Many of us have flown for the airlines yet very few current airline pilots have flown fractional. Who do you think has an accurate picture of things, the guys who have done both, or the guys who think they know?
As is obvious in these 121 v frac debates, the 121 guys don't have a valid reference point to compare us to. There is a lot of misinformation and misconceptions about life on this side. For added value, frac pilots spend a lot of time sitting in terminals and riding on airliners. 121 pilots aren't spending much time "watching" in FBOs or riding to work in business jets.
So do you believe, the guys with experience in both jobs or the people who think they know?
