Anyone know if night time can be considered part of the 250 required instrument/simulated instrument hours NJA wants their applicants to have? I ask b/c I was very lax logging inst time over the years...believe it or not, I have 2500+ TT and only about 200 inst time.

How about applying the 1.2 conversion to inst time to meet mins?

Fred, judging by your avatar, I'm assuming you went to Aluminum U. and are still in the military. You can go back to HARMS and have your flight records corrected to add inst/sim inst to what sorties you can. Ask them what is allowed as well.

From what I remember, night time can be logged w/ primary or secondary time. Instrument can only be logged w/primary time.

1.2 conversion really is only good for total time, not instrument. The extra conversion is to allow for extra time that civilians log for block out/in. A word of caution. Most companies treat military time and official documentation as almost gospel. Trying to argue you have more time than what is on your military printouts will be a tough sell, unless it is civilian time. 50 hours is not too much to make up. Try to fix what you can in your records (that may take some research), and be more diligent in logging inst/sim inst on your next few pond crossings. Good luck.

Thanks SamFox...never thought of going back and trying to alter some 781s to add instrument time. I'm sure it's a paperwork nightmare and the HARM folks will balk, but I'll try.

By the way, never heard it called "Aluminum U"...that's pretty funny. I've heard "hellhole" but never Aluminum U.

And I assume you're out of the 89th? Or were?

The other thing that's a little confusing to me...

On their website, they say no simulator time is included in the 250 hours of inst time required to apply. But in their application packet, it looks like they allow simulator time?

Anyone have any ideas on that?

I think that means it doesn't count toward the mins, but they still look at it. Go Falcons, class of '69. Yeah, that means I'm old.

Amen on that. I've got caught on that because coming up in a Navy/USMC system I was taught early that the night time over the boat (meaning out at sea therefore limited vis as you put it) was instrument time and that every naval aviator logged it that way - so I went with the flow basically. That carried over to other night flying though and now I know that I have not been correct in some of my logging for instrument time. The last few years though I have been much more diligent about logging my time more accurately. Thanks for the post.
