The surcharges and Legacy plan really drive the higher than normal costs of our healthcare options.

Nobody should be on the legacy plan. The employee plays a much higher percentage vs the other plans. These numbers are monthly for ee+sp+1ch.

Legacy plan - 747.38 - 34% paid by ee (for an ee only plan the % paid by pilot increases to 60%)
Traditional PPO - 455 - 24% paid by ee
HDHP - 311.62 - 17% paid by ee (company also contributes 150/mo to HSA)

Working spouse surcharge - 261.25
Addl child surcharge(first child incld in premium) - 78.38

The HDHP is the best plan if you can handle the potential exposure of a large out of pocket expense.

FYI...these are 2017 numbers so they are probably a few $ higher for 2018

Thanks for all the responses. Looking forward to the next adventure in my career. Are new hires able to get MCO or ORD reserve out of class? Can you choose between long call and short call, or is it seniority based like everything else? I live three hours from ORD so short call won't work.

LAS or DEN out of training, bid to the other in the next month or two. ORD or MCO in around 6 months. Short call in both of those locations for well over a year, possibly two. It’s all seniority based.

I believe the rates stayed the same for 2018

What is a safe distance (drive time) to live from base to ease the reserve burden? I'll be moving my family to central Florida prior to training, and commuting until I can get MCO. My somewhat ineffective forum searches for reserve rules lead me to believe 2 hours is the timeframe so I have the wife on a 1 hour radius house hunt.

You're correct...2 hours from call to report. It's about 20 minutes from the employee parking lot to the gate.

I think a 1 hr radius is good for central FL, that's what I ended up with. I started at a 90 minute radius but with Orlando traffic I decided it was safer to do 60 minutes. Most of the guys I fly with who live in central FL seem to live right around an hour from the airport. Personally, I eliminated anything that required commuting on I-4. Most of our MCO trips leave super early in the morning so statistically you'll likely miss most of the traffic on the way in, but better to be safe. Let me know if you need a realtor. The guy I used was fantastic, and he's used to the airline pilot quirks now :-)

If you want good schools, Oviedo or Winter Park. Better property value appreciation and retention. Private schools in Orlando are 20k/yr. Avoid I-4 at all costs.

They are saying we are getting Ipads installed in every airplane in November so don't get to fancy on an Ipad unless you want it for personal use when they switch. As a new hire you will get 600 bucks but if I remember right it is taxed. ADS-B will be via Stratus installed in each cockpit with 4G LTE. Foreflight included and also our Jepp App and Comply365. I believe they will also have an app for dispatch releases but not approved to sign it that way, yet.
