Default Questions from a new hire

Interviewed in February and was offered the job. Start class on April 2nd. I've spent my entire career in part 91 with a short stint with 135 ops. What parts of FAR 121 should I study to help ease the transition? Which iPads are approved right now? What minimum memory would you suggest? I have to buy one for some contract work this month. Is Frontier still using Foreflight? Are suction cup Ram mounts allowed on the flight deck? What type of headset plugs are there in the Airbus? Are adb-b receivers like the stratus allowed on the flight deck?

Thanks

Anything later than an air 2 What minimum memory would you suggest? As much as you can afford, but I suggest an min of 64. The more memory, the better for movies, tv, etc....espcially if you commute. I have to buy one for some contract work this month. Is frontier still using foreflight? Yes, we are authorized to use foreflight, but it’s on your dime. Are suction cup ram mounts allowed on the flight deck? iPadmounts are in every plane. What type of headset plugs are there in the airbus? I believe it’s a 5-pin...google airbus headset adapter and buy on for $25. Are adb-b receivers like the stratus allowed on the flight deck? Yes, we have authorization for ads-b, but, again, that’s on your dime.

Thanks

Congrats. Hope I’m of some help. Been 121 for a long time. First. You will learn the flight ops manual which Basically covers 121 info. The iPad is provided so don’t buy one. The company has mounts in the aircraft. The headsets are already in the aircraft and most don’t use them at Cruise. All you need to do is show up and study what is provided.

iPads are provided? Did I miss a memo?

A STIPEND is provided but you still need an iPad when you show up to class.

Never read anything as such about bringing a iPad. When did you go through training

For at least the past several years you have had to pay for your own and the company provides a stipend.

I know somebody as recently as December said they all brought iPads with them to class on day 1. On the other hand I’ve been hearing rumors about company owned iPads coming to an Airbus near you...but nothing official.

Maybe things are changing. A stipend is kinda a company provided. There was nothing in my paperwork stating to bring a iPad for March 5th. But then again wouldn’t be the first time I overlooked something. Oh well. There is the contract thing that I believe will be resolved.

“Oh well”... good first impression for Day 1. You’ll spend most of the first day setting up your iPad and learning how to access the manuals.

And what “contract thing” are you talking about? Our Section 6 negotiations or your training contract? Neither looks like it’ll be resolved anytime soon.
