They are saying we are getting Ipads installed in every airplane in November so don't get to fancy on an Ipad unless you want it for personal use when they switch. As a new hire you will get 600 bucks but if I remember right it is taxed. ADS-B will be via Stratus installed in each cockpit with 4G LTE. Foreflight included and also our Jepp App and Comply365. I believe they will also have an app for dispatch releases but not approved to sign it that way, yet.

$400 for an iPad Pro:

What type of iPad case do you guys recommend? There are so many different to choose from it’s hard to decide.

The one that makes you feel happy inside.

I’d recommend getting at least 64 GB of storage. Between the Jeppesen and Comply 365 apps you won’t have much storage left over if you get the 32. Cellular IMO isn’t worth the extra cash, most unlimited plans give you at least 10GB of tethering from your phone. Any of the pro models will work. You can probably get a pretty good deal on last year’s products.

If you get a model that is cellular capable (i.e. can take a sim card) it will have a GPS receiver inside like an iphone does. It's nice to see your position on different mapping programs like foreflight if that's your bag. I can get a position about 70 to 80 percent of the time with mine. You don't have to have a sim card installed or any sort of data plan for the GPS to work.

I’ve got a Garmin GLO external receiver.. I bought an iPad Pro 10.5” 256gb I just can’t find a sturdy looking case for it..

I bought the minimum iPad. An Air2, 32gb, WiFi only. It was 350 bucks on Amazon. Works well for me.

I'm also a Feb interview guy looking forward to starting training soon. I thought I'd add this question to an already helpful thread for us new folks.

What is a safe distance (drive time) to live from base to ease the reserve burden? I'll be moving my family to central Florida prior to training, and commuting until I can get MCO. My somewhat ineffective forum searches for reserve rules lead me to believe 2 hours is the timeframe so I have the wife on a 1 hour radius house hunt.

I would suggest you give some serious thought on moving to LAS for a year. Do you really want to commute across the country for reserve? That is a lot of time away from the family. MCO is by far the senior FO base.

What do the iPad mounts look like in the bus? Will certain cases not fit?

I just have a flip cover case, but have seen Lifeproof and Otterbox cases fit fine, I don’t have the big screen Pro though. Those do fit I just saw one the other day but that guy didn’t have a giant case though.
