The following was just brought to my attention and I wanted to make sure that those of us considering multi month COLAS are aware.
Regarding CARES act extension:
The ALPA email states: “ If there is an extension of the CARES Act, the company and the Association will reconvene and discuss alternative voluntary cost-saving measures.”
However this is not entirely accurate when reading the full LOA Language which states:
In the event that the U.S. Government awards, and the Company accepts the terms of, a Payroll Support Program (PSP) for aviation employees with an effective date of October 1, 2020 or later, the parties agree to discuss alternative voluntary cost savings measures.
This is a critical Difference. If you are bidding a 3 or 6 month cola thinking ALPA has the opportunity to negotiate again when CARES is extended that may not be the case. It is entirely possible (probable?) that Barry could turn down PSP support. In that case we would have people on long term COLA-35s and pilots on zero value lines when taking the PSP could have meant guarantee for everyone on our list. Food for thought.

I'm guessing its semantics as no one will technically be involuntarily "furloughed." They will just be on zero time lines.

What I'm thinking now is that we are going to have a lot of 3 month COLA takers, but very few 6 month. So the 504 should be good until January. And then... not so much

I suspect you’re right, I think the lookout for January will be rough. But then they may decide to continue offering paid COLAs that will keep guys off COLA-0.

Just got a text from ALPA stating 1 month offerings may be exceeded, consider 3 or 6 month option. Why is there a preference by the company? Shouldn’t the preference be to get 504 regardless and when they need more then offer when appropriate? What’s my simple, cola mind missing😀
