Seems that your missing the point. It's not that they can't grow because of this single storm as you seem to put it.
It's more that this response (week-long operational meltdown) is more symptomatic of the problems than it is the problem itself.
Underinvestment in IT, demise of the old SWA culture, blind commitment old tech (but with new engines!) and uncomfortable 737s, management sticking their head in the sand, etc., etc...
Personally, I think F9 has more room for operational tailwinds than SWA these days. Especially after the JBLU / Spirit merger.
Well, just as long as they don't let pilot attrition ruin things. You guys need a contract on par with Delta if management really wants to succeed. Not a penny less.

So the question is where is F9s biggest short coming currently? Is it gate space, pilots, rampers, gate agents?
Just based on experience it seems rampers and gate agents are most of my flights weak spots. We get to the airport 20 before arrival just to sit there waiting for a stamp crew at an open gate. Then we park at the gate to just sit there and wait for a gate agent to pull up the jet bridge. And then as a result the next flight is delayed and the pain continues.
Gate space is certainly a long term issue but the rumored future bases at Cleveland and CVG have more than enough gate space to accommodate some growth. Don’t so much like the ground gates in Denver but we are getting more gates there. Lots of variables in the other cities. How’s the expansion in Orlando with their new terminal free up gate space?
It’s not as much attraction of pilots to F9 it’s more of a retention issue. We currently hire way more than we need to support our growth but we need to find ways to keep them and basically everybody at F9 knows what we will have to do. It’s just a matter of them coming to the bargaining table before it’s too late.

I mean Kirby is right. If they don’t come to us very soon I don’t see how we can keep the place staffed, let alone growing. Increasing that “loan” for new hires won’t do the trick and if even Captains are leaving …

lol. You can reignite that rumor if you’d like but after the dissection of our meltdown by SWAPA, I’m convinced that our company is so deeply ingrained in their ways that adding another fleet type and/or another marriage is waaaaaay beyond what they’re capable of taking on right now.
Too bad, I’d really love the comfort & working environment of a NEO 😉
