This is incorrect. . UAL is not getting rid of 319s any time soon. They are getting rid of the 320s.

The ones parked over the last 3 years were all A-320s, but the A-319s are being replaced soon as well. The fleet plan for 2026 should show this. They probably won't have it out until December.

the majority of the 319s are not going anywhere for 3-5 years(or more). There is no replacement .

I was wondering why we got rid of our 319s... Yeah they were small, not as many pax, etc, but there are a lot of routes we could fill them on and fly more of for shorter hops. There is a reason other airlines have a variety of fleet size and different frequencies.

Maybe Frontier needs to think about the 220? 120-160 seats could keep a lot of our routes open year round. That would give us some consistency with some cities in our network. Just a thought.

I’ll mention it to Barry next time I play golf with him.

Wonder if we were ever in on the sweepstakes...

I’m all for the legacies turning on each other, they played nice with each other when business and international revenue was plentiful but now that’s not the case anymore. Let them take their focus off us and the other low cost carriers for a while.

Am I alone in thinking UAL is over extended?

AA and DAL seem to be making careful moves while UAL is expanding like crazy. It's been a while since I looked ,but a few years ago UAL had the most airplanes while being 4th in number of passengers carried behind WN. The level service at UAL has gone up to an impressive point. which is great, but when I look at sky taxis, supersonic aircraft , the vacuuming up of new hires, the new bases , new airplanes I scratch my head where is all this money coming from? Is this like the old days where "they hire until they fire" or have they cracked the encryption to the money printing machine?

UAL has never trailed WN in passengers carried. Domestically yes, but not in total. UAL has the largest WB fleet in the US at the moment and the largest percent of international travel.

Only time I’ll tell how united Next works out. Kirby bet the farm on Covid recovery being swift and so far it’s working out. Consistently catching DAL in profits (still trailing though) paying down debt and adding aircraft and paying cash for them. He’s giving himself an easy out by prolonging old paid off aircraft that would be simple to park and removed from service in the event of a downturn.

It’s working for now and basic economy has been draining the ULCCs. Near term it’s been a double edged sword for the ULCC between a difficult economy for the lower class traveler (their bread and butter) but the international carriers with premium seats to offset the slow down in the more frugal customers.

Only time will tell though. This industry is extremely cyclical. History says it’ll slow down at some point, the question is will United’s $15.6 Billion on hand and paid off planes be enough to weather whatever storm comes.
