Default PW 1100 GTF Engine Expanded Inspections

I'm hearing from some buddies at F9 that they are just now figuring out F9 engines have been identidied for the same inspections that Spirit is dealing with...

Is the sky falling? Or is it still too early to tell

I know this is APC and very much doom and gloom, but could you please give me an honest breakdown of what you all are talking about while flying the line.

This is taken from Q3 earnings and is the main cause I believe of what people are paniking about

"“Since 2022, we have begun to induct aircraft into our fleet that use the Pratt & Whitney PW1100 GTF engine, and we have elected this engine for most of our planned future deliveries. In the third quarter of 2023, Pratt & Whitney announced an expansion of an inspection program related to PW 1100 GTF engines which, for the first time, includes engines in our fleet. This inspection program is expected to begin in the second half of 2024. The impact to our operations is unknown at this time but may result in lengthy turnaround time to perform these inspections and any resulting repairs or other modifications that may be identified. This program may have an adverse impact on our operations, increase costs related to our existing fleet and potentially affect the timing of future deliveries of aircraft for which Pratt & Whitney engines have been elected, potentially materially.” -Page 47"

Is there a real posibility the engines are going to get taken off line?

Yes

https://www.aviationpros.com/engines...out-of-service

"turnaround time for the inspections will be between 250 and 300 days from the time the engines are removed from the aircraft to the time they are reinstalled."

They will be able to moderate the impact somehwat using spare engines in a shell game, but that will likely delay new deliveries. Sounds like it will be significant.

Lately I’ve been reciting episodes of Family Matters line for line once we hit cruise. Captains have seemed to really enjoy it. I do a hell of a Steve Urkel impression. Besides that we just complain.

If I remember correctly, you asked if it's worth it to get out several months ago. It is. Get out sooner rather than later. All the "QOL" schtick is overplayed at F9 and most sold by those senior there. Update your apps. Get out, the grass is greener.

This assessment may be wrong for those over 55 with decent seniority. For the rest, get out. F9 management is reviled in the industry for a reason. All management cares about is the bottom line regardless of where you go, but there is an extra level of spitefulness/incompetence to Indigo that you will recognize once you leave. Stop wasting time and get out. Those prognosticating about a recession have done so for the past 2 years and will continue to do so forever.

I don't think it will get better for F9 pilots, and I may be a chump, but at least I don't work there anymore.

I only have 14yrs left. It's a difficult choice when the wrong path could be devestating for my retirement.

Catastrophe seems unlikely. Probably this is a speedbump, Frontier moves along, and you retire without drama.

But lets say it starts a doom loop and Frontier is heading for Chapter 7. Somebody will scoop up those planes and pilots, and it's not gonna be Allegiant.

A furlough can happen anywhere at any time. You won’t really see it coming. Best to not worry about it.

Doesn't this not apply to us since ours were so new? We got all of them after 2021.

I believe is has more to do with when the components were manufactured, not the engine itself.
