I am a retiring USAF pilot who has been out of the cockpit for a few years, targeting a regional to get recurrent and competitive. I was offered a CJO with GoJet with the option to attend indoc and hack my seniority clock in Jan, with the understanding that I would not be avail for training until after retirement in Jul. They apparently only offer this to retiring military folks...they claim that after those 6 months of seniority (and two additional months in training) I would be able to hold DEN as an FO once I hit the line. Just looking for any validation on that and any other recommendations/advice. I have 2600ish TT (turbine) in heavies, so I am not concerned about longevity with the company and the pay/health/etc...just the potential to move to DEN with the family, hold a line, and fly...and not have the hassle of commuting. SkyWest is the other option there (and in COS), but would probably be quite some time to hold either as an FO. Thoughts? Thanks!

 

Not a GoJet guy, but more commenting on the decision to move the family to Denver.

Make sure you consider also your next step beyond the regionals in making this decision. Denver is one of the toughest cities to commute from in the country; there are a lot of pilots who live there, and thus a lot of folks with whom you'd be competing to get on the jumpseat to go to your *career* job at a major airline.

I know you've been looking all over the country at a lot of different cities over the last several months (at least in terms of the questions you've been asking on APC), and obviously I don't know what other factors are leading you to currently be looking at Denver, but at least take a look at the commute situation and factor it into your decision.

 

Leave it to GoJet to invent another way to abrogate seniority.

You can't be recurrent in an airplane you've never flown. You want regency of experience.

If you work for GoJet, consider putting "*****house Piano Player" on your resume for that timeframe.

Copy and thanks...we were just down in Dallas and Houston looking around in those areas. Commute would certainly be easier from there for sure, but mama is leaning towards DEN. Also having to move before I know who may hire me in the future is proving to be challenging. We have looked at LAS as well...but not on the short list. As I mentioned in previous posts, she wants to stay put for 4 years until I get the last kid through HS. In DEN, that means I am betting on UA or SWA...or will be commuting for 4 years. So, appreciate the comment on the commute issue. I have a bud that lives in DEN with UA and domiciled in SFO, and says it's manageable. But...that's just one data point against one carrier. At the end of the day, there seems to be no perfect solution on the west side of the country (our target)...thus the multiple posts to gather as much info as I can.

 

This may be irrelevant, and you may not be hard up or cash, but food for thought is that Endevor and now Republic has significantly increased their pay rates. Republics’ details to come out next week some time.

 

I have looked hard at Endeavor, but it's a tough sell to my wife with those locations. I have heard great things about both.

 

Well if the wife wants Denver you’re probably going to Denver.

Based on the December seniority list at GoJet(G7) the junior FOs in DEN are 8/17, 6/17, 6/17, 4/17 so yes in theory with 6 months “banked” seniority plus training time you should be able to hold a DEN base after IOE (initial operating experience)

If living in Denver and not commuting are your highest priorities then GoJet may be a good fit for you.
