Remember Folks that a lot of companies have prohibited beards per their ops manuals which means that you may be denied a Jumpseat with a beard. You cannot expect a crew member to violate his or her manuals or company policies ( you are considered an ACM on the Jumpseat), when you are requesting a ride. This will become a jumpseating issue as more companies allow their pilots to sport beards. It will be interesting to see how all of this plays out.

I doubt that stops anyone.

And I never said it did, I am simply pointing out it can happen and the the Captain is well within his rights if he does. I think it will become more of an issue as more airlines allow beards. Read the Allegiant announcement that was posted in entirety. That is all. I personally would wear a goatee if allowed, but it’s not so I don’t.

Doesn't stop them from trying, and occasionally they get told to go shave real quick. I saw this recently, on DAL. Other JSer was regional, didn't have a beard but hadn't shaved in a while.

A bit illogical since most dispatchers can probably have beards, and they have to JS for currency. Not sure about feds, whether they have to comply with company pilot grooming standards. Don't recall seeing a bearded fed.

"No 5 o'clock shadow" - there's the next battle; frankly I don't feel like shaving every day to move the aluminum tube around; luckily none of my employers have ever cared, but these "grooming standards" are fresh out of either 1950 or the military ca. 1995 (or in some cases, today).

The US mil is 100% no beards, unless necessary for operational reasons. The later only applies to special forces.

'Staches are pretty seriously limited, but allowed. Sideburns, barely.

Yeah, in any case it's excessive and that "old school pro" BS needs to take a hike out of the industry already.

Absolutely. So long as the FMS works, we're in good hands. Bermuda shorts go nice with a bun & beard.

Indeed, wasn't a problem when we hauled freight in the islands. Anyway, I'll be long retired by the time things get comfortable for actual degenerates like me... Probably because I don't live for an image.
