Default Renew CFI

I've been flying part 121 for about 20 years. I (short sightedly) let my CFI lapse about 15 years ago. Now my son wants to take lessons and wants me to teach him. Anyone have the skinny on what would be involved?

Thanks

Reinstatement. You will have to take a checkride with a DPE (or FAA) to reinstate the certificate.

Or in the instance you don't have say a multi engine instructor rating, you can take a check ride for that and reinstate the rest of your certificates as well.

Consult the PTS and there is a table which tells you what parts are required to reinstate the certificate.

Take a checkride for any cfi rating you held, that will renew them all. For an airline person, the CFII will be a lot easier than CFI-A.

The other good way to do this is get an additional CFI rating, like CFII if you are not already, or MEI, etc. If you need to brush up on instructional stuff anyway, this is a good way to pick up a new rating, and then passing the check for that new flight instructor rating will renew your other flight instructor ratings. Depending on how much you need to brush up, this may not be a lot more expensive.
