Companies pausing travel over virus fears

2% fatality rate for those KNOWN to have had it, so far. But how many have had it without knowing it? It's proven there are those with it that haven't even shown any symptoms, how many more of those are there? How many have been sick and didn't get tested? How many who have been sick and just stayed home like they normally do, and got better? Do you personally go see a doctor every time you're sick? I don't. Most people don't. If you're that afraid, take time off from your job, barricade yourself in your home, and wait it out.
I bet with time we'll see the perception was far worse than the reality.

Since only three states have testing kits, and the CDC has already recalled the first set of kits, we have no way about knowing how many mild or asymptomatic cases are out there. The CDC intends to do random testing in a number of cities to try to determine what exactly the case fatality rate is. I’d be willing to bet it’s much closer to 0.2% rather than 2%.

The late rally was due to program trading for scheduled portfolio rebalancing. Lot’s of “market” orders in the last 15 minutes. More will come at the close on Monday. Might be a good time to sell those high flyer turds you’re now stuck with, or sell in the money calls-if there are any buyers.

Yeah it might be the biggest number but it was 4,000 points in a 30,000 point market. You would need a 6,000 point drop in one day to match the October 1987 Black Monday drop.

How much of that is Amazon and other tech companies not worrying about spreading the virus, well-being of its employees, etc. But trying to avoid several thousand employees from calling out sick at the same time when they come down with what is essentially a cold for most people?

Finding the right (replacement) employee and bringing them up to speed is always less desirable and more costly than taking the hit of funding telework arrangements. The lost productivity is only a scratch on the surface if we had to compare it to the morale hit, damage to brand reputation and the moral suffering of how by not curtailing travel we just left some kid without a parent... or worse we just made them suffer after being infected themselves and then they had to watch a loved one die alongside as they survive. I’ll stick to telling my guys to just work from home and let’s do more video conferencing with remote offices instead. Travel and the personal touch/impact can wait at this point.
