Paranoid Pilots?
#171
More importantly, why do you assume every FA is a female, and every pilot is a male. I was an FA before I became a pilot, and my wife is an airline pilot who weighs 105 lbs on a heavy day. Do you want her to defend the 4 male FAs she flew with last time?......

Extenuating circumstances may call for a different plan.

We're all equals. They can handle themselves.

Covering the camera is cheap insurance.
We went to extreme lengths with mil security (I was TS+), don't need to go that far obviously with personal privacy and confidential business (union) info but you'd remiss to totally disregard the risks. I have a good sense as to the scope of what's possible, and it's very nearly anything and everything. Even the best world-class encryption can be and often is compromised by flaws, backdoors, loopholes in the HW or various software. Or plain operator error/negligence.
My brother also related some cases where managers for large companies had actually hired outside "investigators" (hackers) to enable their digital snooping, to further their own personal interests within the organization. These were companies which would not remotely conduct or condone illegal hacking/surveillence, but they had some rogue people.

I work for an airline that has management software on all our iPads, and is very open about the fact that anything you do on your iPad can and will be monitored by the company. They claim that they can't activate cameras and microphones, and wouldn't, but most of the pilots here put a deferral sticker over the camera anyhow. Seems like cheap insurance to me. I have zero doubt that this company monitors iPad location and would indirectly use it against a pilot if they needed to.
Our company also offers a crew based app which allows for checking in on a device (vs company computer or phone call). Some people don’t understand that the app uses location services.... I still make the phone call.
I don’t do anything but work related stuff on the company ‘chinery, but I don’t have tape over the camera. Maybe I should LOL.

This. It’s amazing how many fit this category. Either they’re too smart for driving a plane and should have been designing it instead of flying it or there’s some deep unknown insecurities. It’s such an easy job, why complicate it. As far as the paranoid guys they probably just want to feel like they have some control over an unpredictable job. Those that refuse to talk to FAs, I never understood either. Yes, trouble can happen with them, just don’t say anything dumb and don’t get into a hotel room alone with one, not very complicated.
