Most of the hypothetical benefits associated with FA's would probably happen after midnight...

Pilots have more anti social conspirophiles than any (supposedly educated) professional group I have encountered. The banter is more aligned with what you’d find in an auto-mechanics shop than in educated work settings and they think they are better for it.

It's because, unlike most professionals, we don't work in an office as an integral part of an org chart.

So some us don't have any context for how "systems of people" (ie organizations, private or gov) actually work. Their frame of reference is junior high school and James Bond villains.

I know some private-practice docs who are exactly the same, for the same reason. They are the captain of their ship (office), and the office is full of lower-end medical help. Maybe they have another doc as a partner. They have the time, intellect, broadband internet, and lack of context. My AME is really into illuminati, Q-anon, etc. Or maybe he's just testing MY mental health

AMEs are an incredibly bad example of well anything really.

Well, that’s because pilots are not an educated professional group, or not in the sense that most people think of. We are blue-collar, union trade workers. Our profession is more aligned with unionized plumbers and pipe fitters than lawyers and engineers.

Need proof? Just look at how the majority of pilots act in the hotels on overnights.

So, there are no educated mechanics? How condescendingly woke of you.

I think it’s great intelligence to graduate training with no student loans and make lots of money. Or maybe it’s better to spend six figures on a MLA program and have a satisfying career as a barista.

I recently attended truck driving school and learned a lot more than driving a truck, which is the coolest thing ever. I learned how spoiled I’ve become making the money we do and having so much time off (the rule of supply and demand more than the warrants of the profession). I also saw folks paying $3k for training (usually reimbursed by the company that hires you) that will earn them $65k their first year. I also learned that the ones who had “good” jobs already were happy to make $17-18/hr. As they talked about how good that was I wondered how I could manage on that salary.

I also saw that the conversation was similar to what is on here, the crew room or cockpit ( but with more expletives and cigarette smoke). In fact, the classes were very diverse (professionals seeking a backup, military and civilian retires starting a second career, inner city folks looking for better opportunities and country folks getting out of the trailer parks) and the ratio of left to right was no different that what we see anywhere else, and the discussions respectful, for the most part.

All of this was a surprise to me and very eye-opening. So I would caution against judging a person’s intellect and communication skills based on education level and profession.

Pilots are highly educated, just look at the type of education and degrees our coworkers have. Flying an airplane doesn’t require the education most of us have.

My God, man. Where do you work that would give you such a low opinion of your colleagues? A good number of people I work with have graduate degrees. And no one gets in without at least a bachelor's (and within the last 10 years) a high GPA.

Very much a true statement. I have encountered wealthy people with MBAs who don't know how to use jumper cables on a car battery, let alone change a flat tire.
