Default Girlfriend potentially lost my job

Three weeks ago (August 6th) I was hired by a flight school here in Florida who told me that I could expect to start 2 to 3 Mondays afterwards and to start looking for housing closer to the school. Last week Friday my girlfriend and I were in the area looking at housing and she was bugging me to ask about benefits, pay schedules, uniforms, etc. I was asleep in the passenger seat, when I woke up to see her put the car into park and getting out. Turned out we were in the parking lot of the school. I was a few steps behind her trying to get her to stop and get back into the car, but I walked in just as the Chief Pilot was rushing by the front door trying to get to a meeting. He told me that I caught him at a really bad time and that he'd call me in a week. I waited until yesterday, 15 minutes prior to when he usually leaves for the weekend to try and reach him about when he'd like me to start. Receptionist took my name and number. Now I feel like he has changed his mind about hiring me, and is giving me the cold shoulder.

He hired 6 new instructors including myself, so some people think that he was just too busy to make any calls, but I think I lost the job.

Is there anything I can do to fix the problem? My girl wants me to write an email to him explaining why "we" popped in, which I think is a bad idea. I really wanted this CFI job, seems like a great place to work for and I would be flying on a regular basis again Any advice would be welcomed.

Your story seems incomplete. Did your girlfriend talk to anyone or did the chief pilot just see you and her walking in the school? If he just saw you walking in, then it is no big deal. If your girlfriend confronted anyone and rubbed them the wrong way, then the only thing you probably have to worry about is what your future coworkers think of her.

If they told you to look for a place to live, they wanted you to work for them. I don't think they would un-hire you even if she did walk in to ask about benefits. If they do decide to un-hire you without telling you over that, you don't want to work there anyway.

Also, waiting until 15 minutes before the chief pilot leaves on a Friday is not the best time to talk to him. Wait a few days and try to call him in the morning or mid afternoon. Most people do not answer during lunch or at the end of the day.

If your girlfriend actually spoke to someone there and was anything other than polite, I would be a little nervous/embarrassed, but if she didn't get a chance to speak to anyone or was pleasant when she did, don't sweat it.

The there aren't a lot of CFI jobs out there, your girlfriend on the other hand isn't a monopoly in and of herself.

Sounds like you and your girlfriend need to decide who wears the pants.

Don't get me wrong, I do everything I can to keep my wife happy but she understands that sometimes I have to make career decisions she is not entirely happy with in order to be able to support her. When she gets pi$$ed about my choices I let her know I would be more than happy to let her pursue a career and I'll stay home and look after the house. Unfortunately she still makes me work.

J,

Don't worry about it - just wait it out. More so, don't act too desperate or insecure about the job. Tell your girl to chill and things will fall into place...no need for an e-mail. You got it all under control.

If he hired you don't worry about it - now, in a couple weeks more and you haven't heard anything from him...I'd probably try to find out what's going on.

Take care man!

I wouldn't sweat it. If you were offered the job I think you'll be fine unless she actually brought up issues with the school.

1) research "rule of thumb"
2) ask her if she spoke to them
3)tell her it's not her place to do anything that could jeopardize your future
4) exercise #1

You handle your business.

A girlfriend shouldn't be that interested in your job.

Well thats not very big now is it, suppose it should have been the rule of wrist.

Anyway now that my attempted movie quote is out of the way. You definetly need to lay down some ground rules. For her to take it upon herself to go to YOUR soon to be employer to discuss YOUR benefits seems a little much. Highly recomend reevaluating each others place in the relationship

As for contacting the chief. Do you want to be bothered at the end of the day on a Friday?????? Try a mid morning call might get a better response.

Good Luck to ya
