I have a lot of time in SoCal and have always known it was busy, I actually have a lot of time up and down the entire west cost. I would have never debated SoCal was not busy. However I have not flown in New York, I would like to though someday.

I fly in socal a bit. I have to say that yes it is very busy. But, the controllers are very accomidating out there. They are almost never too busy to help a person out.

I just figured with Luke AFB, a couple of the busiest class "D" airport in the nation, and all the flight training around there would of made it a contender. Obviously i was wrong.
Phoenix isn't even one of the top 5 largest cities in the US...

I believe it is the portal to hell, though.

I LOVE that about Socal.

Down here in Miami if the controller has to use his noggin or actually work for a while they will be cranky and not want to talk to you

That's when you file IFR and **** them off!

That actually brings up a good question. Who/what/where have you encountered the least accommodating controllers?

My self personally has not been stateside but in Afghanistan with British controllers. If I can take a line from their book "it is a bloody mess" dealing with them

I don't want to insult anybody who may have worked this but the controllers at the TRACON near KBCT as well as the KBCT tower.

Not all the time. Sometimes they are the nicest, but come around 5 or 6 pm and they act like you are inconveniencing them by being in their airspace, despite the fact that there's no one around and it's their job.

I will agree with south Florida controllers. I hate dealing with anyone south of MCO! I often comment that I wish Florida would break off and float away!

Default Pilots v Controllers

Never had any problems with controllers flying anywhere mainly in the SE.

Even had Washington Approach (now Potomac) apologize for "box" vectoring me into DCA in a 172 to squeeze some faster guys in.

I've had a pop-up IFR request denied, but that was laziness on my part and the controller was certainly within his rights to do so.

ATL Center denied flight following to someone else a few years back, but I think he was trying to get a point across. "unable FF due to staffing shortages"

I did hear a pilot get really rude to ATL when he could not get a shortcut.

Air South (737) got ticked when we (172) got cleared for an approach before they did. First come, first served was the response.

It goes both ways, and everyone has bad days but for the most part everyone works together. (Kum-bah-yah)

I had a controller in Kuwait tell everyone on frequency once (after many calls and a period of utter silence from the controllers)
