This thread reminds me of the day a capt pounded on my hotel room door and demanded we swap rooms because his had no internet, he said "im the captain....." I told him he was the capt of the plane sitting at the airport ramp.

For those of you that can't read how this topic began.

I've never seen a DL guy mention that they don't share hotel vans. Company chartered vans are one thing, but hotels are community. When/where was this?

Huh?? A little proof reading would go a long way! Just bustin' your chops!

I have NEVER run into a Delta Capt. that said no to anyone with a family member riding in the van as long as there was room. That being said, our FOM clearly states what one of the previous posters said. Proceed at your own risk.

I'm hoping the comedy continues in this thread and the seriousness backs off because this is one funny topic!

"As van-coordinator in command, I must inform you that your wife that you only see half the month can't come to the layover and ride with us, because as Captain I insist that you stay in your room all by your lonesome watching the hotel channel for the entire layover. Fun, sharing transportation and an easy-going nature don't happen on my watch!"

My take on all this would, of course, change if I was flying with MD Culpepper. Matt Culpepper of California \ Nevada Web Site

As for whether or not the Captain is responsible/in charge of ground transportation, I feel like it depends on the situation. There is a big difference between 2 crewmembers taking a hotel shuttle from Podunk Regional Airport to the airport hotel, and a crew of 14 or 15 taking the bus from AMS to the hotel. Somebody's got to be in charge, and in this business, it's the Captain.
In AMS, NRT, or any other international destination the busses are charted or run by the hotel, and leave when everyone is present. Never seen a Captain with a clipboard or walking the aisle to make sure everyone is present, either before or after the merger......

The real etiquette question is do you own up to your farts or just look at the cat rancher next to you and frown?

Every van issue must be approved by this pilot:

I dropped a bomb on the employee bus the other day. As it wafted it's way back toward a couple cat ranchers, I heard them begin discussing that someone "must have messed their pants."

Victory was mine.

Highlight of the trip, no doubt.
