What about “Chugger”? We had a QCQ (quarterly recurrent) where our flight ops VP introduced one of our Mad Dog Captains to explain an inflight emergency he encountered, and he introduced him by his callsign....Chugger. I cringed a little. I agree that Smiley or Smitty, whatever, isn’t bad, but how do you earn the callsign of Chugger?

Somehow, I doubt it has anything to do to beer.

This had got to be a joke and is obviously staged. No pilot in his right mind that wants to keep his medical would be able to get away with that delusional announcement more than a few times! I don’t care what airline he works for, If I was flying with somebody that made an announcement like that I would walk off the airplane. Got a good laugh out of it though. Reminds me of something you would hear on a SNL skit.
