They know what it means, but the brevity codes were more used for mil to mil radio brevity. I doubt if the controllers know or care if you are winchester, but its a useful term mil to mil, same as bingo.

So these guys aren't just confined to the regional ranks, huh? I flew with one of these tools and every time we'd leave the airplane, even on a 5 leg day with 3 different aircraft, EVERY TIME whiiirrrrrrr...the seat all the way down. Whiiiirrrrrrr...the pedals all the way forward. Smacksmacksmack the armrest all the way up. Finally asked him why, for the love of all that is good and holy, did he do that!? Answer? "The instructor said we were supposed to on my last PC". Seriously? Seriously!? I guess there are two nominations here: this guy for thinking it seemed like a useful technique he picked up from an instructor. And whoever the dumbass instructor is who's teaching this! Now, who is the bigger tool, I do not know. C'mon folks, we're all ABOUT the same size. Leave the seat and pedals where they are and let the next guy make the small adjustments as he sees fit. All you're doing is wearing out a mechanism.
Also closing the tol cards to the front page and setting the transponder to 1200. Why? But seriously, I know I know, checklist discipline and all, but the main reason I do this when I'm the next guy is so its obvious I have forgotten to set the weight and transponder. My brain doesn't work so well sometimes! Also, had an instructor tell us to move the seat all the way back and down and pedals all the way forward to make it easier for the next guy to get in. Never done it, sure it makes sense if the next guy is 7ft tall and 300 lbs! |

I suppose the former military controllers know the brevity code, but I would venture a guess that the civilians are just as clueless as the rest of us when it comes to these terms.
You are now less clueless: Brevity code - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia but you still may be tumbleweed.:D |
