I wonder how many of the posters saying you shouldn't have called in sick have ever worked for an airline that was perpetually understaffed to the point of never being able to drop a trip?

To be fair I only call in sick when I am sick but both my current and former airline would never allow me a day off if requested. Ever.

But secondly, you lie to your employer about your situation. Did you happen to call the pilots that may have been called out on reserve or given a "junior assignment" and explain the situation and apologize? Thought not. No matter how crappy your regional was, where were your ethics? Was that week off a "right"? I guess it was in the new age of entitlement.

Can't blame him for not updating a LOR for you, but he should have had the 'nads to tell you to your face over the last four years. That was toolish. But IMO, your behavior was just as toolish for basically lying to your employer and someone had to pick up your slack.

Checked into hotel at 6am after a all nighter. 30 min later, knock on door "Housekeeping. Answered door and was told they have to knock if there is no "Do Not Disturb" sign on the door. Told the lady I did not have a DND sign to hang on the door. Back to bed. 15 min later the phone rings. Housekeeping supervisor calls to apologize for the knock on the door and explains their policy again. Back to bed. 30 min later, knock on the door "Housekeeping". Answered the door. "Here is your DND sign" and hands me one.

Followed by a call to crew scheduling delaying your report time for necessary rest.

Wholly pussposterous these preachy, false, finger wagging pronouncements. Never since that fine day Walter Varney spotted the same joker trout casting at Riley’s creek who, the night before swore on his dear mum’s life, a tooth ache had got him hard down; have guys not ducked trips under veil of sketchy circumstances. And who’s to say a week on the water is not just what the Dr. ordered anyway, hydrotherapy the correct technical term? As long as the rigs keep moving, bon voyage.

Tool of the Week: whoever it was last night on Guard over central Oregon, broadcasting a recording of 'Allahu Akbar' and the Islamic call to prayer for about three uninterrupted minutes.

The first 5 seconds was funny, the remaining 2:55 not so much...
