Guns have no place in the cockpit. The vast majority of pilots agree with me, the rest post angrily here. ;)

I find explaining why a gun is not useful in the cockpit similar to explaining to laypersons why a (personal) parachute is not useful in my plane, or in an airliner. Some may want it "just in case." Still does not make significant logical sense, and is an emotional response.

But anyway yes let's return to TOTD.

I figured the mods would have kicked him long ago for complete ignorance and insulting arrogance in nearly every post, but then realized his click numbers on the wannabee ads on this site must be off the charts.

FFDO debate? Not anymore, I tried to reason and got nothing in return but irrational generalities and condescending responses from a little plane pilot that has demonstrated that he doesn't have access to info on security limitations surrounding the issue. Look at his "armed ER" example. If there is a threat, a cop or security can be there unlike on most flights.

APC keeps letting posters like this in, have fun, I'm gone. They offer nothing for those of us who actually fly for a living. Take a look at PPrune. That place is run amok with enthusiasts and wannabees. Getting good info there is nearly impossible.

Adios

I'm not sure that's entirely accurate.

I can guarantee that is not accurate. Quite the opposite. The vast majority are either okay with it even if they don't want to go through the training, fully support it but don't want the hassle placed upon them, or are part of the program.

Im not sure why some people are on this forum. This place is called airline pilot central. Not quack central.

You ARE the layperson.

Couldn't agree more.

Credentials In PA

I know things like this have been posted here time and again. But, I never thought I'd be living it or ever making a post under this thread.

Here I am in shorts, boat shoes and a T shirt (orange lanyard and "I Am Investment Grade" tag attached to my non-crew looking carry-on) with my family getting seated on a Delta MD-90 in RSW. Why so casual? Because I can! I'm riding real-deal tickets, since nonreving throughout FL in spring break season is a nightmare. But I digress. The captain makes a welcome PA using his full name and that of the "assisting" FO. "We are both former U.S. Navy pilots with over 43 years of combined professional aviation experience to get you safely to Atlanta today." No orange either.

Captain of DL 2427 on 3/26/2016, you may be a dandy pilot, blessed with a stellar assistant. But, you sir, are a tool!

What did he say when you asked him about the lack of orange?

I've asked a couple pilots. Pretty consistent answer. They say wearing the lanyard isn't going to help negotiations. Some will add that it's against company policy and job is too good to risk. One said he never wears lanyards and isn't going to start now.
